You get to discover how her new life is after she was forced to leave her home city and settle in a new country as told by the 'Angel' she met in the mountain temple, however, it is not long before the story brings the Angel back into her life once more who offers her the chance to leave her world and travel with him to his home world to become an Artisan. She accepts his offer and goes with him, but fate throws a twist at her and she ends up travelling with different people and is set on a path of discovery about herself and the rest of the worlds out there.We meet Tyen again at a school of magic where he is teaching mechanical magic using the knowledge he gained on his homeworld. He taught this magic in order to complete his knowledge about other types of magic at the school and after five years has completed his training and is trying to discover new ways to get back to his mission of restoring Vella. He is devistated to hear that the school must close as the ruler of worlds, the 'Rean' has once again (after 20 cycles of disappearance) been spotted and the old law forbidding the teaching of travelling between worlds will be enforced. He, like a lot of his colleagues and students, abandon the school and set off into the in-between to warn others and to find a new path, however, it isn't long before he is confronted by the Rean himself and he must make a deal or suffer the consequences of travelling between worlds. Like the first one, it easily held my attention to the end and I’m looking forward to September when the final part of the trilogy will be published.The structure of the book is clever, interleaving the stories of Rielle and Tyen. The plot is very well worked out, giving a very interesting story.
