Orbit 21027 B-hyve Gen 2 Wi-Fi Hub, Gray

have had Orbit B-Hyve hub and timers for 2 full seasons, starting my 3rd spring with them. These are easy to program and reliable. I had a problem with a valve failing to open this spring and Orbit support worked with me to verify that the valve had failed: they sent a replacement timer. The app made transferring the programming from the failed timer device to the new one as simple as it could possibly be. I take the timers off in the fall (along with disconnecting hoses, etc to protect outlets, hoses and timers from frost damage) and re-install them in the spring. All the programs are automatically synced with the timers within seconds of putting the batteries back into the units. Programming the timers to conform with local watering restrictions is simple. Identifying the watering zones in the app is simple: the app can take pictures of the zone so I don't have to guess where they are. The hub detects weather conditions and automatically delays or skips watering cycles if rain or frost are in the forecast. This is one of the most solid "smart" apps I've encountered - easy to use yet provides full features and functionality if you have more complex needs. And, unlike nearly every other app, it hasn't crashed on me. ever. (wish I could say the same for my not-so-smart watch!)

I had 2 4-Outlet B-Hyve XD timers, they work good, but the bluetooth connection was a little cumbersome. I also like the idea of having control away from home. I received the hub, it was easy to setup. The app froze during setup and I thought I was going to have to start the setup over but it was fine. The hub connected immediately to my timers. I haven't tried the setup away from home yet, and with it being January I haven't used it to water anything but I expect the timers to function properly.

If you want to use your B-Hyve system with your smart home and other smart weather features, then you need this. Its easily concealed due it its small size, and it doesn't block the other outlet like some electronics do. I took one star away because I actually had to buy two of them to get coverage from my b-hyve smart controls in the front yard and in the backyard. Trying to put this in the middle of my house to hopefully get reception to all devices didn't work. The price is reasonable, this wasn't a huge deal. They should provide some additional documentation on range limits and how many walls/materials you need the WIFI to manage.

New Gen 2 system is utter junk! Gen 1 system worked for about 2 years and then started to get leaks and connective issues! We ended up buying, originally, 3 gen 1 systems. After about a year, the first one died. So we upgraded it to the gen 2. Since the day it arrived, we are able to get the Gen 2 to turn on and off when we are holding it inside, but as soon as it leaves the house, no good! We moved the little wall plug to the closest wall plug to the sprinkler system, which is about 3” away(wall thickness) is how close it is, and still nothing! We rest it and still the same problems! We have no clue where they went wrong but they seriously need to reevaluate programming or something because these things are not cheap!!! Now, year 2. The second Gen 1 has started to leak. Only one of the original Gen 1 systems work now and it is now barely wanting to work! We have completely reprogrammed the original Gen 1 and the new Gen 2 and still the exact same issues! We wondered “could it be our wifi?”. So we uninstalled the whole system, brought it over to our neighbor’s house, reprogrammed everything AGAIN, and guess what? EXACTLY SAME ISSUES ALL OVER AGAIN! We just bought another Gen 1 system, just so we can compare. This way we can see if it has to deal with aging, or could it come down to Their app! Side note: We remove all sprinkler systems mid fall, before the first free, to prevent any damages from ice. We also remove the batteries and wait until everything is dry before we put them up into storage for the remainder of the year! Hopefully this will save others from the same headache we are having!
