AFI, Southampton Murphy Bed Chest Full with 6" Mattress, Built-in USB Charger & Storage Drawer, White

We were very nervous about buying a Murphy bed that we had to put together. We had read many reviews about other Murphy beds coming damaged and the instructions were difficult to follow. The boxes did have some dings in them, but the pieces were so well packed that there was not any damage to the bed itself. It did come in 5 boxes and they weren’t labeled as to which one had the instructions, so we did have to open all the boxes before we could start. We had a “handyman” put it together for us and it took him about 2.5 hours. He thought the directions were confusing at times, but on the whole he thought it went really well. We have not slept on the mattress yet and we are considering adding a foam topper for more comfort, but haven’t decided yet. We would highly recommend this product. It is beautiful and well built.

This is a well-designed and attractive unit that works great in the guest bedroom. It was packaged extremely well with foam and formed cardboard that protected the pieces (and their corners) very well. Assembly was a snap, though it does take a couple of hours, all parts fit perfectly and it even came with spare hardware too. The cabinet is solid wood with particle board used sparingly for the back cover piece, etc. It is simple to open/close the bed and the design provides for a very stable base. The drawer pulls out and its frame supports the base of the bed on both sides as well as top/bottom, an excellent design compared to other manufacturers. Two adults were quite comfortable and the bed was plenty stable/strong/durable. These features made this product better than many we saw that were 2x or 3x the price, it also includes an outlet & USB which is a useful feature. We also like the fact that the 1/2 of the top also flips open, reducing the feeling of being 'boxed-in' when you lay on the mattress. All-in-all, this is a great, fully complete unit that is well-constructed and reasonably priced.

This was exactly what I was searching for. It did come with a broken latch on one side but customer service was great and sent out a new one immediately. The mattress is comfortable. We left it out for three days so it could fluff up. Took a few time to figure out how to fold it up into the cabinet, but once we did, it was easy to set up.

I have been looking for a quality and beautiful Murphy Cabinet bed for a while. I have also slept on a few and knew I wanted good quality furniture This is it! This allows me to use my loft/office and the cabinet bed as a complement to my desk. It is very sturdy! The assembly was done by my handywoman in about 3.5 hours by herself- she said the instructions were clear and it was fairly easy to assemble and great quality! I love this especially for anyone who needs a nice piece of furniture with limited space!

So the product arrived in non damaged boxes and and after reading the instructions I figured 2 hours max to assemble at a moderate pace. Boy I couldn't have been more wrong. I opened the box and immediately saw the front drawer piece cracked and a screw not entirely set in to hold it, so I'm assuming they knew about this at the factory and still shipped it as there was no damage to the box. The brace in the back was incorrectly cut, as the groove depths were 1/8 inch on one end and 3/8 inch on the other. It's not 100% wood as the back pieces are particle board, these were bubbled out as they must have gotten wet at the manufacturer and of course would not fit into the incorrectly cut grooves in the brace or other pieces. I had to router out the back brace and make slightly wider to ensure the bubble out particle board would fit. Luckily I had a router, otherwise it would still be sitting in pieces on the floor. So I go to put on the top piece and it would not lay flush, so I had to router the back brace another 1/8 inch deeper to get it to sit correctly. The top piece on the front also had paint imperfections which were very noticeable. So now I'm 3.5 hours in and should have been had this finished an hour ago, but no there's more. The countersinks for the handle screws depth were incorrectly drilled. So out comes the drill and I had to manually drill each one so that the handle screws would actually extrude from the other side instead of sitting flush or slightly recessed. In the end, i probably spent 4-5 hours on something that could have been finished in less than 2 easily. I now have to order replacement parts and disassemble and reassemble so there is another hour or so. NO ONE should have to do any of this when you pay almost $1400 for an item. It could be a great piece, but in reading some of the other reviews, it's a crap shoot what your getting in your box. I'll update this after I order the replacement parts. We'll see how that process goes. Adding to the SAGA: Atlantic Furniture won't do anything for you even with the bright reddish orange paper saying to contact them first. They told me to contact Amazon and deal with them. They definitely do not stand behind their product. Anyways, Amazon addressed and I am pleased with their response. Buyer Beware.

I was impressed by how extremely well it was packaged. Even so, there was minor damage that shouldn’t affect the assembly or aesthetics(pic). It was very easy for me to assemble. I love assembling things and I am meticulous about it as well. The mattress is thin, however it is adequate for my young visitors. They claim it is comfortable. I am 120lbs and find it comfortable to lay down on but it compresses completely to the wood if I sit or walk on it (only way to get to a lamp against the wall.) I bought the grey which I think looks really nice. The hardware that is attached to the frame, (pic)which allows the frame to be locked onto the cabinet, has a sharp edge. I may tape a washcloth with masking tape to it when I have guests outside my bubble, and after COVID-19. As others have stated, I was also missing the screws to attach the frame to the cabinet. The frame also does not match up evenly with the height of the cabinet.(pic) It is slightly off and may strip the screws out overtime from the uneven weight distribution. I am not handy enough to go to the hardware store and purchase the correct Size screws. And, with Covid Currently surging I am not comfortable going to a hardware store for help. Not to mention the company should send them to me anyways since they left them out. I immediately called the 1-800 number for help, and was told to email the company for faster service. I sent an email with details and photos. That was October 24. It’s December 9th, I’m still waiting and I can not close the bed until I get the screws. It’s in my Tiny office. Luckily you can not tell I’m sitting on the bed during Zoom meetings. Not being able to fold it out of the way is however becoming increasingly inconvenient. I would have preferred a regular and well built Murphy bed but we did not have the wall space to install in my tiny office. We bought the Queen size. It is very heavy and is difficult to move once assembled. We used a carpeted Dollie with 4 wheels to move it, while on its end, around the house and to its final destination. (Pic) If the bed was slightly better built, cabinet level with the frame to attach via 3 hinges and proper screws included or mailed to us, I would recommend. It looks really nice and seems well built for occasional use.

I am very impressed with this purchase. The Merchant did a great job communicating with us during the shipping process. They let us know the first product was damaged in transit before it arrived and were sending us a new one. Once the second one was shipped they immediately sent the tracking link. Upon arrival the product was very well packaged in three different boxes. The instructions were well written and was very quick and easy to put together. The mattress was surprisingly comfortable and was used immediately by guest the next day after it was put together.

We needed to convert a spare bedroom into an office and we went with this product. Couldn’t be happier! The assembly instructions were easy. I did it by myself in 2 hours. But if you could get someone to help, I’d recommend it. I would also recommend that when the product is delivered, have them bring it in the room where you want it. The boxes are super heavy and it really helps to have them exactly where you need to do the assembly. The mattress is comfortable and it’s a sold piece of furniture. I saw some bad reviews about shipping damage so inspect all the pieces before you get started. Everything was fine in our box. We are very happy with our new Murphy Bed!
