Basic but does the job.
I had to calibrate with olive oil as it was out by just a bit. Worked great for me, but this clearly isn't a super high end unit. For the price though, it is perfect. I use it for honey and I can't seem to keep propolis off of it. Having a cheaper unit makes sense.

Directions are not for this model
I calibrated this using EVOO (27%) and then tried it on some honey I already had. It read the honey as 17% which seems accurate. Luckily I checked my honey and it was at 19%, which is too high, so I will either eat it all really quickly, freeze it or try to dehydrate it now. Glad I knew!Easy to use once calibrated. I wrote on the cover the numbers I'm going for with honey and EVOO' #s so I don't have to hope I remember.

Could not calibrate
We were not able to calibrate this, but it seemed to work accurately when we actually used it for honey.

Appears well made
Feels like decent construction. The optical design is clear and the instructions do a decent job of explaining how to use it. I would recommend youtube for better instructions

Nice Quality & Case. Can Be Hard To Read. No Instructions. Requires Calibration.
I really like the case, which is hard-shelled and opens and closes easily and securely. On top, it is labeled embossed in all caps as being a “PORTABLE REFRACTOMETER,” which I greatly appreciate. Inside, it has nice foam slots for the refractometer, a dropper, and a tiny screwdriver (which are all included). My case had 3 crookedly placed stickers on the outside that were easy to peel off without leaving much nasty residue to irritate my OCD. The refractometer itself feels relatively solid and sturdy, especially for something priced so low. It also had a brand sticker placed crookedly on it that was easy to peel off.It didn’t come with any instructions, which is disappointing, as I’m totally new to this and have almost no clue what I’m supposed to be doing. I’m sure I’ll figure it out, but a little help would’ve been nice. I see that there are some basic instructions here in the product images, but they’re not exactly detailed. Looking thru the lens, which you should twist to focus, you’ll see the measuring scale, which is on the tiny side. My vision is perfect, and I still had a hard time making out some of the numbers and markings, well, until I used actual sunlight instead of the lighting in my home. Using sunlight made everything so much easier to see. Looking at some of the other reviews, I apparently need to calibrate it, so the readings I’ve gotten so far are likely inaccurate.Overall, though, I think this is a nifty little item for a beginner like me, and I think it will help me learn and understand more about the quality of the honeys and syrups I’ve been trying.

Works but calibrating is difficult
The unit worked but calibration was pretty difficult. It would be great if they provide a calibration solution. I had to use honey that I knew what the sugar content was to then calibrate my unit. Not ideal.

Honey moisture refractometer
Got this to use on honey. The unit works good and is simple to use once you get the calibration down. Fun little unit. Never had one before so I can't say how accurate it is. If it matters it is made in China.
