If one is using it to stretch the entire unit around an object, (much like a rubber band is placed around a rolled newspaper), the "ball to ball" length, ( measured in it's passive state and then it it's fully stretched length ),would be in accordance with the 12" rating.( Note: The "ball lock / anchor" feature is really of no use in this application.) - - -- Otherwise, given the intended "ball lock / anchor - fastener" key feature of the design, the same rules would apply to the 6" minimum rating instead. Based on this key feature of the design, ( which is the ball anchor / fastener ), it seems to me that the advertised 6" specification is correct accordingly. Note: Using the 6" specification, my bungee has a "minimum" stretch of 6". The approximate "maximum" was 14".
