Pit Dweller Must Read
As a long time fan of The Bachelor franchise and the Game of Roses podcast, I knew immediately I had to read this book by the people who have thoughtfully and meticulously put words to our beloved game. Anyone who is curious as to how the game works or is considering going into the game, needs to feast their eyes on each of these chapters. Hope they write another for The Bachelorette and BIP franchises too!

An important work for a new era (seriously)
This is an incredible book by two brilliant and dedicated scholars of The Bachelor. Nothing else even comes close to the levels of cultural and psychological insight offered here—and backs it up with real work. The authors frame The Bachelor as a game with clear rules and goals. The goals: be the bachelor’s choice or the next Bachelorette, and use the this to get followers and become an influencer. The only rule: Always act “for the right reasons”—i.e., as if your sole reason for being on the show is to find love. From there, they break down player archetypes, game play, and offer sophisticated statistical analysis (example: the association between rose distribution order and game winners). It’s incredible, and there’s a lot of joy and humor, too.The arguments are compelling, and the light they shed can’t be unseen. You’ll find yourself looking through the HTWTB lens and using its vocabulary as you watch (example: “She played that Personal Tragedy Card (PTC) beautifully!”), then wondering how you ever went without it.This is absolutely ground-breaking and perspective-shifting. Casual Bachelor viewers, beware: you are about to reach a new level of understanding and fandom.

The Pit Provides
I have been anxiously and expectantly waiting for this book to drop since July 2021 and now that I have finally devoured it, I have to say I was not disappointed.Whether you're six feet deep in the pit or a rookie Bachelor fan, this book should be at the top of your TBR list. I listen to the Game of Roses podcast weekly, so I was delighted to find out that they had written this book in a similar manner, laden with their creative lexicon and humorous storytelling. I didn't even need to buy the audiobook version because I was hearing it in Bachelor Clues and Pace Case's voice. The book is easy to understand yet complex as they outline each week of the game chapter by chapter, detailing how to win each level in layman yet Game of Roses-esque terms. I found that if I was auditioning for The Bachelor and I was clueless, this book would all but hand me the Ring (or even better the Crown) on a silver platter. The book even includes hilarious drawings of memorable plays, which made the reading experience even more enjoyable.10/10 would recommend.

"The only way out is through."
Chad Kultgen and Lizzie Pace, hosts of the Game of Roses podcast, have revolutionized the way I think about the Bachelor and Bachelor franchise as a whole (the Bachelorette, Bachelor in Paradise, etc.). If you're "in the pit," then you know what the opening quote means. If you're not in the pit (& you'd know), you should read this book and listen to their podcast.I used to watch the Bachelor with naivety, but this podcast and book have showed me that the Bachelor is nothing more than a game where there really is a chance to find love, and in order to make a deep run and find love, you have to know how to play the game. Although I do not plan to go on the show, this book serves as a comprehensive history of the show thanks to the "Hyperbinge," and it contains names and explanations for different strategies and plays you can think about when watching the show. I give this book 5 stars because it was informative, and I truly believe that this book and its contents are the future of the Bachelor.

Having a ton of fun reading this book!
As an avid GOR listener, I pre-ordered this book back in July. I was so excited when it finally showed up on my Kindle a few days ago. I knew I would like it, but have been surprised by how much I feel like I am actually learning (hoping to become a PHD of the game one day myself)-it is nice to have everything in one place in terms of all the different strategies and lingo that are talked about on the podcast. I am married and too old at this point to compete on the Bachelor, but this book makes me sad to have missed my chance! I really think it can have an impact on the Game going forward, and I can't wait to see future players!

Hilarious, and informative for my next life when I am reincarnated as a pageant queen
Have you ever thought about how the sausage is made at Bachelor Mansion? If not, you should. Once you crack this puppy open you'll never watch the show the same way again. The Bachelor is a game that America has been sucked into, whether you know the rules already or not.Great for sports fans. Great for Bachelor fans. Really great for dental hygienists looking for love.A detailed instructional manual reads as a literal how-to guide for prospective contestants, but it's also a feast for the mind for the average viewer by shedding light on the complex obstacle course that all of these contestants go through to become beloved, famous, and subsequently Instagram's next hot influencer. The essential oils industrial complex starts here.

Everything you need to know about the modern Bachelor
If you've ever been bored watching the Bachelor, this book will introduce you to a whole new way of watching. It does a brilliant job showing how people can play 4-D chess, including breaking down the aspects of the show and the motives of the contestants, and how those items influence how different "players" act while on screen. If you've ever gotten into an argument with someone about the show, thought about auditioning, or want to see the episodes in a new light, you need to read this book!

So much more than just the podcast
I thought this would just cover the ground of the excellent Game of Roses podcast - which I didn’t kind. But this is so much more. The history of the game, the analysis of the plays and players, the humor. And also all the WORK that has gone into this. I have both Kindle and Audible versions - Audible comes with a PDF that you can print for reference and worksheets (the geek in me loves this a Thank you Lizzy and Chad :)

Fun read!
I have been listening to the Game of Roses podcast for now over 2 years and I love it. The way they analyze the show as a sportsmakes it a very entertaining listen. However, I did not enjoy the book as much as the podcast. First because I already knew a lot of the elements of the game from the podcast. Second and mainly, because I do not want to win the Bachelor... the book is very helpful for anyone who wants to go on the show, or on any other reality TV show for that matter. But this isn't a goal of mine. Whereas the podcast is mostly for entertainment. However, I did enjoy the historical elements of the show, mostly everything before season 15, which is the first season I ever watched. And the stats! I love numbers so I really enjoyed that element. Finally, I also enjoyed the chapter about being complicit. It gives a deeper understanding of the show's history, its deep rooted issues and where it should go from here on out.I really recommend the book if you want to participate in any reality TV show, or if your a fan of the bachelor franchise.
