Careless
It seems to me that Mr McCrery put a fair amount of thought into the plot of this novel as it has a good premise - a serial murderer with no consistent method but then he rushed the writing as I didn't like it. I could nitpick all day about details but another reviewer has covered that so I'll concentrate on other areas. The synaesthesia thing is patchy. Sometimes it affects him so badly he's sick and yet he can wander the corridors of a hospital or spend a couple of hours in a pub to little effect. The narrative is not linear and the jumping about with time annoyed me as it was a bit confusing. For example Lapslie collapsed at a press conference then we go back over his afternoon leading up to it but as there was nothing revealing there it seems pointless. It reminds me of my essay writing days - work out a good outline then write it all in a few hours before deadline, which gets it done but leaves no time for revising the content.
