Last night it was petty cold outside. They kept my hands nice and warm. These gloves cannot be used on a smartphone. I wear an XL glove and these fit just right. First, the positives: They fit great, and the deerskin palm is indeed very soft and flexible. They appear to be very well made. I got them today, and here's the rest, less positive: I wouldn't call these "winter gloves" at all, unless you're on the Gulf Coast or maybe Southern California in the winter. I picked them up at the post office on my way to the closest city with stores, a drive of another 30 miles past our post office. The gloves were quite a bit less thick than I expected, so I decided to make the drive with the heater off in the truck, but with windows closed, as it was in the low 20s outside. I figured there might be some kind of new, improved thin insulation I hadn't heard about. Half way to my destination, my hands were cold, inside a closed vehicle. No, I was not active, because I was sitting there driving. But I also wasn't exposed to wind or handling anything cold outside, like a metal bucket handle, snow shovel or the sort. I got these to replace a real pair of thick winter gloves that are pretty worn out. These are not those gloves. The photo in the ad doesn't show how thin they are. As a winter clothing analogy, these would be like having a sweatshirt on, not thermals and a warm jacket. I won't be wearing them to shovel snow or care for animals in the cold mornings. Well made, yes.
