A lovely fire!
I am really pleased with this fire, I was not sure what to expect but went by the feedback and the company. The fire looks lovely in place is very good quality and apart from the nice flame effect, it gives out plenty of heat, I thought it would just take the chill off the room as it is a good sized room and gets very cold but it really warms it up quickly. I am still getting to grips with the remote but that was an added bonus so I will persevere, especially as it is thermostat controlled and means that it will not keep running and wasting electricity. For the money, it is far better than I had hoped. It arrived quickly, well packed and when I had to phone the company with a query the lady was very polite and helpful. I had to return the spacer as I had ordered it with the fire but ended up not needing it. I had to pay the postage to return it which I had not realised but as the fire was free postage to be delivered to me I did not mind. I had looked at many fires and almost ended buying a much more expensive one from a local shop, I am so glad I found this one! I would certainly recommend this fire and the company.

Well deserved five stars
My wife and I have been looking on-and-off for a long time for an electric inset fire with a flame effect that we could live with. We found some quite high priced fires with effects that looked good in stills and videos on the internet, however disappointment always followed when viewing them in showrooms so we decided we would buy a cheap fire to tide us over for a couple of years by which time flame effect technology would hopefully have improved. I went onto the internet and stumbled across the Roxby fire, the good reviews and low price making it worth the risk to buy 'blind'. We would have preferred buying from a showroom, though their overheads would have made it more expensive of course. I placed an order on a Wednesday night and the fire arrived on the Friday morning. We tried the fire free-standing on the hearth and were absolutely delighted with it. The flame effect is as realistic in any of its four modes as on the more expensive fires we'd looked at, and is enhanced by the red glow in the inter-spaces between the 'coals'. In fact the flame effect is far more realistic than the photo suggests. The fire surround is obviously made of sheet metal, not cast like some of the high-end ones, but it is well formed and looks good, though understandably not as solid looking as on some fires costing two or three times the price. The remote control is comprehensive and quite fun to use, though care has to be taken to aim it straight at the fire otherwise the LCD display on the control can show a change that hasn't actually happened at the fire. Also pleasing is the flame effect not degrading much when viewed at an acute angle, unlike at least one of the more costly fires we looked at. The noise level in heating mode is rather prominent, especially in an otherwise quiet environment or when listening to music, but we find it acceptable as the fire is not our main heat source and will rarely be used for heating. (We haven't listened to the noise level from other fires so don't know how it compares, however our son-in-law says it's about the same as on their Burley fire.) The flame effect fan is barely audible even in a quiet room, only being heard if deliberately listened for. I did come across a problem, not severe enough to warrant loss of a star but sufficient to hamper the easy installation that I'd anticipated... There wasn't room for the cable to pass between the side of the fire and the stainless steel moulding around our fireplace recess. I sent a question to Endeavour Fires and received a very pleasant and helpful reply email within 30 minutes ( though I didn't in the end use the method we discussed). I drilled an 8 mm hole through the fireplace right next to the moulding and just above the hearth. I then cut the moulded plug off the cable and, with the fire standing just outside the recess, passed the cable through the hole and fitted my own plug. The fire then went into place very easily. Though it doesn't say in the installation leaflet, there's provision below the fire to re-route the cable exit from the right-hand side to the left-hand side. This gives a bit more available cable length if your mains socket is on the left of the fireplace.

First class electric fire at reasonable price.
Excellent electric fire offering a visual and psychologically ambience to your room. Has a programmable multi-feature remote handset for personal adjustment. With flame effect only in use, the running costs are insignificant. Up to 2KW heating available as required which give rapid heating to the room when required, and as a fan heater it is very quiet when running. Easy to fit though recommend it is essential to check on dimensions of your hearth opening before purchasing. Ours fitted our inset opening as if made for our house with less than a millimetre to spare! Being electric, the supply cable from the fire to the wall socket comes from the rear of the right hand side, and thus needs to be taken to the front edge of the fitted fire - our needed a small slot in the bottom edge of the fireplace surround.

Very warm and cozy
Lovely fire really warm and cozy the only down side it the power cable is very short and had it as ti be plugged into a mains we had to buy a high capacity extension cable but overall it's perfect.
