Cyclades: Monuments

This expansion really saved the base game for me. I had issues with the tactics that my friends would use to win through brute force alone, since you were always just waiting for Ares to pop up. However, this expansion addresses that issue by randomizing monuments, so every game is somewhat different and prioritizes other gods and tactics in order to win.

Cyclades Monuments is an intriguing addition to the Cyclades board game. Obviously it adds monuments (cool little mini buildings) that give players even MORE special powers. They look great on the game board. Interestingly, to building monuments requires players to build sets of base buildings (different for each monument). For example, building 2x fortresses allows a player to "The Great Citadel of Ares." Building 2x ports lets you control "The Great Lighthouse of Poseidon."While the powers of the monuments are VERY cool, some are more powerful then others (hence the loss of one star).On the plus side, "Monuments" actually encourages players to build their own buildings instead of stealing them from other players (a weakness in the base game IMO). I think this expansion just might make the original board re-playable, even with the Titans expansion. Hmmmm.

If only all ten Monuments were in play at the same time.
