Best implement I have bought for my house this last year
Actually, it was my husband who urged me to write this review since I don't review items much. I went to his office room and said, "This food composter is one of the most important implements I have ever bought for our house." He said to write a review. I live rurally, and we are forever plagued unsurprisingly by mice, rats, and others. I had an outside food bin for composting, but the rats got into it all the time. When the rats started getting in walls of my very old home, and had apparently their evening meals on my compost bin, I learned of this recycler from friends. I purchased this on Amazon one year ago. OMG what a wonderful tool. I eliminated the outdoor compost pile (we did do some patching of our walls), and I use the food recycler 3x a week. It's quiet, I'm left with a fine powder like substance in the bottom, no mechanical problems, AND NO MORE RATS IN OUR WALLS!! Great product.

Great product
Great product. I've been using it daily for almost a year to make compost for my yard. It has worked flawlessly all that time. Never jams and super easy to clean (what little I have to do). I was surprised at the amount of vegetable matter I was putting in the green recycle bin prior to this. Expensive but worth it.

It's not loud!
I had the Lomi food composter and thought it was a miracle. Two years later it needed a repair. Customer support was unresponsive. Seriously crickets. I simply wanted to see if they could repair it. I complained to Amazon. They also had no luck in contacting Lomi. Thankfully they honored my loyality as a consumer, told me to return my broken Lomi, and gave me a credit. How great was that! I researched alternative composters and discovered the work horse of composters : the Food Cycler Eco 5! The reviews were excellent. Best of all, reviewers, and the company assurred me of the 3 year warantee! I pulled the trigger and ordered it. I LOVE it! Having been a loyal Lomi fan, I crossed over and now am a full fledged Food Cylcler Eco 5 fan. It is such a better, thoughtful, efficient product. When running, I barely hear it. The Lomi was SO LOUD! There are really helpful directions about maintenance, cleaning, and over all care. Absent with Lomi. The carbon cartridges are much easier to load. The run time is comprable to Lomi and yields the same type of compost. Still I know have upgraded! Forget the Lomi!

Works as expected
This composter works as it says it does. I really like the fact that I hardly use my garbage disposal at all. It is great to turn waste into something useful.

Quiet, worked over night
10/14/25 giving 4 starts until Iโve had it longer Itโs quieter than my dehydrator, and around the size of an air fryer. I loaded it with broken corn cobs and other veg and it broke it down overnight. We garden in a suburban neighborhood and donโt want rodents in our outdoor compost so this should help cut down smells! I will update 10/16/2025 So far it seems to just dehydrate and turn into a fine crumble but itโs absolutely not compost. I will keep it because we got it to reduce food smells in the outdoor compost to prevent rats. So for that, it works 1/28/2026 Still using it! And then dumping the dried compost into a larger bin outside and Iโll add it directly into my garden beds this spring to finish decomposing. NOTE **** DO NOT PUT ANY AMOUNT OF FRESH BAKED BREAD IN THE MACHINE!!! The yeast cakes up and glues everything together and becomes solid rock and wonโt finish cycle. Iโve had to dig it out and itโs taken almost 2 days of soaking and scraping. OTHERWISE- still love it

Worth the price---if you're a serious composter!
This is an AMAZING machine! I was very tempted to go with a less expensive indoor composter; but after a lot of research, I decided to make the major investment. I purposely took several months to write a review, because I wanted to better evaluate the value. It's a very sturdy unit, clearly well-made. It's attractive enough to keep on the counter, but it takes up considerable space and should not be used directly under a wall cabinet (because of the heat/moisture that it produces, when it's working). It also should not sit on the floor, so I made a small, raised platform (almost like a stool) for it to sit on. I've been pleasantly surprised with how well the smell is contained. If I'm doing a lot of cooking I put the bucket on my counter, so I can easily deposit scraps. The enclosed lid is very effective with containing the odor. The only time I noticed a strong smell is when I was recycling some scraps that I had started to compost in an outside bin. It took a second cycle to get rid of the smell and produce a soil-like consistency. The only complaint I had for the first month was getting the bucket to sit properly, before starting a cycle. It might take anywhere from 5 to 10 times, with no rhyme or reason, before it fit properly. But I finally figured out that you should not cram food into the bucket, especially when it's not already seated in the recycler. What can happen is that you end up changing the alignment of the blades, so they don't properly connect, when you place the bucket in the unit. Since making that discovery, I've had no issues with proper placement. Yes, this is an expensive machine, but if you're serious about wanting to dramatically reduce your food waste---and create a substance that will nourish your garden, then yes, it's worth the price.

Itโs a high end machine
Excellent customer service. I had some issues at beginning, the byproduct from Foodcycler was very wet, and machine made large noise when running. The customer service representative respond me quickly. There are two tips I learnt, with these instructions,I had no more isuue and it always have dry debris as it should do. Tip one, adding some cutting paper into the waste bucket, better from brown bags since itโs less chemical. Tip two, donโt make the bucket too full, and filled up tightly , so the machine will be running smoothly .

I love this machine. I did a ton of research prior to purchasing it and I chose this model for a few very important reasons. 1. 5l bucket 2. Quiet 3. Efficient 4. What it could compost 5. Refillable charcoal that can be purchased at a pet/ fish store I have a large 2 side outdoor drum composter that works really well. Easy to use and fill , BUT, it cannot be used in the Canadian winter. I threw a lot of stuff away and I was heartbroken by it. This machine is an absolute game changer. My first batch consisted of chicken bones, paper towels, coffee and tea grounds with filters and bags and assorted vegetables. Oh my gosh! I canโt tell you exactly how long it took as I turned it on before bed, but I woke up to a third of an ice cream pail, a little over 1 litre, of the weirdest looking compost Iโve ever seen. It looked like blown in insulation with a bit of dirt mixed in! Nominal smell and so so cool! I have family members who have this and they rave about it. It is expensive and the machine is heavier than I anticipated, but worth it! The 5l bucket comes with a filtered lid so it can sit on the counter to be filled and DOESNT smell! This is an amazing machine and worth every penny. If you wanted, wait until Black Friday to see if there is a discount? I bought it with a coupon so I didnโt pay full price. So far I have zero complaints. Oh, and the bucket is spotless when done. Do not put fat or condiments in it.

I had the first generation one for two years, loved it and still use it but the tub is small so you need to do more loads and the filters are not re-fillable. I've been using this one for about 9 months and love it. The filters are refillable with activated charcoal. Easy to keep clean. It's heavy and large but such a valuable addition to my household. You do need to be aware of not putting too much of any one material in each load so I have a secondary compost pail to hold the extra material until the next load. I recommend using coffee grounds in each load if you can. The final product sometimes smells a lot like dry cat food, but not a bad smell. The coffee grounds help with that. If not mixed into the soil it would probably be an attractant. I keep it in large pails and use it at about 1 to 5 ratio in everything, including indoor plants. I live in bear/racoon/skunk country so it's a great alternative to an open compost. Everything organic is going in there except large hard bones. Great for egg shells, bread, indoor plant leaves and old soil etc, cheese in very small doses, avocado pits, chicken and rib bones (although it takes longer to process. I find it takes an average of about 8 hours to process if there are bones or lots of sugary material like banana peels, melon etc, or if there is a lot of moisture within the load, it takes longer. When I clean out my freezer, all that goes in there too. Avoid anything twig-like and also banana stems (very fibrous and can become string-like and not decompose properly ). I do a load about every two days and have no issues. It's not quiet but not super loud either but you can hear it running and grinding. It's quite expensive to buy so wait for a deal on Black Friday or Boxing Day. I paid $562.19 all in. Totally worth it.

I've used indoor food processors like this for a while (from other manufacturers) and my last one just broke. Saw this and decided to get it as a replacement. The build is solid, and overall looks to be much sturdier than my previous one. In order to use it I had to buy a step down transformer because it runs off 120v, which is not UK compatible (despite being advertised as such). I've been using it for about two months now. It's a lot quieter than my previous one, and runs for less time. Overall, I'm more than happy with the quality. I'd give it 5 stars if it was UK compatible out of the box
