Astro Tools 78197 Goliath LARGE Ball Joint Service Tool and Master Adapter Set

I have a number of other Astro Pneumatic Tools which are good quality, so I went with this press set. I used it to press out the ball-joints on my Superduty Diesel 4wd, which it accomplished without even flinching, in fact, I think C-Press yawned afterwards. The C-press is extremely stout. The large blow molded suitcase (..yes, suitcase) the kit comes in, has an assortment of cups and adapters to tackle a good variety of tasks on multiple brands of vehicles.. I purchased it for my home shop, which is kinda overkill, but, if you prefer “More-Power” style, then get this Goliath Press Set, you wont be disappointed.

Replacing the ball joints on my 2015 Ram 3500. Borrowed a basic set from a buddy and it wasn’t big enough and too sloppy to even get the lower ball joint to move. Decided to spend the money on this set, and got the lower and upper ball joints out in just a few minutes! Highly recommended.

This tool is very strong. I've used the powerbuilt model a few times and this one is superior to that. I've only used it on one ball joint so far but it pressed it out with ease using only a ratchet, and this was on a vehicle in NY state with 130k miles, original ball joint, which I expected to put up a fight..

So, this product is basically the same Chinese-sourced product you'll find in all the other universal ball joint removal kits, with one caveat: The jaw itself has about an inch more in the mouth, which is probably great if you have huge needs. The threaded bolt is the same thread pitch as my other, smaller kit. However, this product is not made to remove 2000-2006 Toyota Tundra balljoints. There was no logical combination that would isolate and press the upper ball joint spindle with the one receiver cup they provide, the jaw isn't large enough. Tried every combination of puck and tube they offer, consulted online to see if anyone else had bright ideas. If they would just provide a shallower receiver cup to push the balljoint into, it'd have worked great, but I refused to take my bandsaw to the receiver cup and cut it in half. So I returned the product because it wouldn't work for me, a $60 kit from Harbor Freight with a $40 cup adapter kit for Toyota/Honda accomplished what this $200 kit couldn't. Good quality pieces in the case like I'd expect from Astro, but the blow-molded case is not great, pieces were flopping around inside when it arrived. If you have the year range of truck I've referenced, save your money. Don't buy this kit.

Worked great once I figured out what combination of fittings i needed to use. Wish it had more solid backed cups but that's more for other uses.

Vehicles have gotten bigger but everyone's making the same ball joint press still. A set like this is 1005 needed. Ran her home with a huge high torque impact no problem.
