I know it says to give on an empty stomach, but is it ok to hide the pill in a small piece of food? Not sure my dog would eat just the pill.

Yes! The packaging says “tablets should be given on an empty stomach; however, if needed they can be administered with a small amount of food or treat.” (The reason I took my Sheltie to the vet in the first place was because he suddenly stopped eating. After tests, my dog was prescribed this medication for his liver problems. But how do you feed pills to a dog that won’t eat anything, not even his treats or cheese? Well, the vet opened a can of pate’ CAT FOOD and surprisingly my dog ate it! The vet said cat food is normally too fatty to be healthy for dogs but they’ll eat it -even when they won’t eat anything else-because it’s like a super-juicy hamburger to them! The vet suggested putting the pill in a small ball of canned pate’ cat food, especially if your dog has no appetite. First, give a tiny ball of pate’ without a pill so they anticipate the flavor then give them a ball with the pill hidden in it while showing them there is more- tricking them into gulping down the pill-ball. Follow up with a tiny dab of cat food and you’re done for an hour when they can stop fasting and eat a meal. In my dog’s case, the meal was cat food pate’ for a few days, then soft-ish dog food smeared with cat food pate’, and now we just use the cat food to hide pills in.) Sorry for the long answer, hope it helps someone.

How large are the pills? I have a cat w/ liver failure & the pills from the vet are HUGE. Looking for an alternative asap. Thank You! :)

I give one for my 11 lbs. poodle which is the small one and a larger one for my 22 lbs. poodle. I gave up on the trauma of cramming it down their throat with a pill dispenser. I know direction say on an empty stomach; however, it is important they take the pills so I bought some human liver pate over in the deli meat section and I give the a tiny treat to trick them...about the size of a ballpoint pen end and then I wrap the pill in just enough liver that they wolf it down and then I give them that tiny bit to follow up. I know it sounds crazy but I watched a vet on youtube show how and it worked. The first little bit programs them for the larger piece which only covers the pill...they wolf it right down. I know it is working because the 22lbs. liver was so high it wouldn't even register on the scale. Follow up last week the liver blood work showed a dramatic drop to well below 300. Hope that helps.

Has anyones dog had any adverse reactions to this product? Ours did.

My dog had diarrhea, but it was from a change to raw food, not Denamarin. Once he had transitioned to entirely raw, diarrhea for two days straight. Once he was back on his canned food, he was fine, with normal poop. The real positives are that he has perked up, that he is hungry, and that some of the side effects from Adrenal Cushing's have improved: less water drinking, hair growing in thicker, less of a pot belly, and skin lesions have decreased. I am happy that he is improving and will continue with this.

Nutramax claims this product does not require a persciption (a dietary suppliment) but is only sold to licenseed vets?

No it is not only sold to vets, because my vet told me to go to Amazon to order this product

Outstanding liver support product for dogs. Surprised to see it on Amazon at a significantly lower price than my vets. Dogs tend to not like the taste, so consider using pill pockets. Pills are long ovals and can be split in half. (As can the pill pockets) Good proven supplement with great price.

Very heartfelt and honest review.My Scottish fold had liver issues. He was normally very active and played all the time. He didnt want to eat or play. He lost a lot of weight. I read so many reviews on so many products. I have spent hundrends on products that didnt work. Not to be dramatic but this did and is saying his life. For 4 or 5 months he was going downhill and I was really trying to decide what was best for him. I tried so many different things and nothing worked. I thought it was time to say goodbye. I figure giving one more product a shot woudlnt hurt. Hes been taking this daily for about 4 months now. It takes some time. About a month and half for him. He is eating he has gained the weight back. he is playing. he is happy. This pill is smaller than most that are similar. I use a pill shooter I got from Amazon and it makes it easier. If you have a cat with liver issues dont wait. Dont look for another product. Try this. It will take some time to get in his system and help the toxins. This product works. I am sitting here watching my cat jump around and run and play that just a few months ago he would only eat if I hand fed him. Get this. Use it for a month. Its worth every penny.

My vet recommended this for my dog. Shipping is fast and reliable and price is equal or cheaper than getting directly from the vet or from any pet store near me. It seems to of been pretty effective as her blood tests are improving! A bit of a large pill but I put it in soft food and she never notices.

My vet prescribed this for my 14 year old lab who had liver issues, which we discovered after a blood test. The vet said she was otherwise healthy, and could very well live another year if we got the liver stabilized. She gets a one daily pill now, and it has drastically improved her quality of life. You could tell before she was tired, sore, she never ran, struggled to get up some basic stairs and didn't like going for walks... after a few days on this, she was wagging her tail again, and even running and jumping which I hadn't seen her do in probably a year. She'll walk a mile or more with us now and seems happy, head up and tail wagging the entire time. It's made a big difference for her quality of life in her elder years.
