Bear Almanac: A Comprehensive Guide To The Bears Of The World, Second Edition

My 9 year old wanted a ‘fat book on pandas’ and this was the closest I could find! Yes it’s aimed at adults but there are a lot of fascinating facts and a few pictures of pandas too. She has enjoyed reading it as a reference book rather than from start to finish.

Great book for bear lovers: Not for younger children though as it's a bit grisly (no pun intended) on some pages as there's also pictures of bear parts - just shows what we as humans can stoop to, I suppose. Very informative, though, and much more a reference book than a book to read.

This excellent book must be considered the defiinative study on bears.It lists 8 species- American black,brown,polar,asiatic black,panda,sloth,sun and Andean bear.- plusdozens of sub species.Theree are chapters on anatomy physiology,behaviour and activities.Part2 of the book deals with relationship of bears with humans covering hunting,use of bear parts,bears and people and their influence.Excellent text,pictures,illustrations and maps.Highly recommended -10 stars.

A great book, offering in depth information about the species of bears that inhabit our World not only today, but also historically through the ages. Perfect for anyone with ambitions to work in conservation, zoology or ecology, veterinary students, and bear enthusiasts alike. By far the most detailed book I have found on these captivating animals.

Great guide to bears of every shade and shape. Very good coverage and an enjoyable read. Well worth the money.

It's fantastic for info, very well laid out and interesting BUT severely lacks photos. I'd say it's 95% text, 5% photos.

Anything and everything to do with Bears. Lots of facts, but this works against it being a good read. For me, its big failing is it does not adequately address the vulnerability of species on the edge of extinction ... and many are in serious peril.

What a joy. You don't need another book about bears : this one is the pinnacle !
