I was using an off-brand docking station with my Surface Pro 9 and 2 27 inch monitors. I constantly had trouble with the screens refreshing, and then sometimes having to unplug and plug the dock back in. This one has worked perfectly from day one. It handles both monitors (I did have to buy adaptors to plug them into the dock), wireless keyboard and mouse, external drive, and my USB headphones. It was definitely worth the extra money.

Microsoft has upped their Dock game by finally adding Thunderbolt – and with a design and quality level that exceeds expectations at every turn. After doing a full teardown of the device (see photos) I’ve never been so impressed with the inside of a little box. But, with all that effort poured into such a robust and elegant design, Microsoft is lacking on features. This is just a re-hash of the Gorilla Creek reference design that Intel introduced in 2020. So its USB ports, 2.5GB/s Ethernet, and Audio. Nothing special about it feature-wise except for the screw-hole on the bottom that lets you fasten it to a desk. Surprisingly, it actually regresses in functionality compared to the older Surface Dock 2 since it is not able to charge the Surface Book 3 or Laptop Studio at 120W and maxes out at 96W. There are dozens of competing docks with more features such as triple/quad monitor support, HDMI, DisplayPort, SD card readers, power button, etc. – and many cost less. So why choose the Surface Thunderbolt 4 Dock? If you want an extremely high-quality dock with Microsoft’s sophisticated and modest design language, and don’t need the bells and whistles of other docks, the Microsoft Surface Thunderbolt 4 Dock is a good choice. At $300 it is expensive and $40 more than the launch price of the older Dock 2, but in the same price range as other high quality Thunderbolt Docks. A few upgrades I would love to see: - EPR 140W power delivery and 200W PSU - SDCard reader - Front-facing audio port - M.2 internal storage option - Option to fasten PSU to the Dock using the bottom screw-hole Some alternate models to cross-shop: - Kensington SD5780T/SD5750T - OWC TB4 Dock - Lenovo 40B00135 - HP G4 4J0A2AA - Dell WD22TB4 For more photos and in-depth analysis, search for "dancharblog microsoft surface thunderbolt 4 dock teardown and review"

Its a great docking station. Works with Microsoft Surface laptop seamlessly. It does what it says it does. Important to note that it uses USB-C for the monitors. So one may need to buy adapters to connect up older monitors. Not a big deal. Makes for easy transitions between home and office set ups. Grab laptop and connect one cord in both locations. Good to go.

The item was new and in the box. I can use it with any computer and it has plenty of ports and power. There is no dedicated monitor ports so you will need a USB-C to HDMI or DP cable.
