I just got mine so I'm not really sure about that

Q: Can the drain line be hard piped with pvc pipe, and is it gravity or pump? Also, how often does it need to be drained?

This one has a drain pump and it works perfectly. It drains as needed automatically. I have mine draining into a utility sink in the laundry room. I don't see why you couldn't hard pipe it if you had the proper fittings. This freezer is amazing and I highly recommend it. I use mine for my son's baseball tournaments and for large gatherings.
