Fab pens as always
Honestly such a good day to day and note taking pen. I re-brought a Safari Lamy as it’s good for taking brief notes for everyday but for long essay writing I use my Lamy 200. This Pen is really good for all levels of writing has a good grip and can be versatile with the ink cartridges and the Nibs. Make sure to check the nib is best for you- you can change the nibs anyways. I’m left handed using the F nib (fine) which is recommended for general and particularly Left handed writers as the flow of ink doesn’t gush out, the thickness is standard and quick dries to prevent smudging with a nice writing comfort flow but it’s all about preference and how thick you want the ink too. Loads of different colours all same size fit and really good grip so would recommend to anyone.

Light, comfortable to hold, writes smoothly
I have always used a fountain pen for writing, ever since I can remember. From the old school days when you're fingers would turn the colour of the ink - no matter where on the barrel you held the pen, to adult life where I was able to afford more expensive pens (and not suffer the painted fingers.) This is a cheap and cheerful fountain pen that is light, easy to hold and use, and works smoothly. It is not often that you find a budget pen that actually works without being beaten into submission, so it was a nice change to find this one which does. Inserting the ink cartridges can take a fair bit of pressure so you need to be careful when inserting one. Once in, the ink flows easily and smoothly to the nib, and I've not yet had any scattering or spotting when using this pen, even if it's sat for a day or two without being used. Cleaning similarly is easy and simple to complete, with a couple sharp shakes to clear the water and add a new cartridge. This doesn't need to be done too often, but once in a while it does the pen good to get a flush through. The majority of fountain pens are medium nib, offering thicker lines and lettering, this is fine under most circumstances, but sometimes you need something that offers a finer result. Construction is pretty solid and clean - no rough edges or burrs. The pen is completely transparent which is strange to begin with, but it does mean you can instantly see how much ink is remaining. It's quite a thick pen, so should be comfortable for people who can't close their fingers easily, and it's light weight means little to no fatigue from using it. The bottom of the barrel is shaped, a curved lower part that sits on the middle finger, and two carved 'flat' areas for thumb and forefinger. These appear to be designed to give a good grip and to ensure that the nib is correctly positioned so the nib is correctly positioned to guarantee smooth ink flow. It also discourages the habit of rotating the pen in the fingers while using it and thereby disconnecting or incorrectly aligning the nib. No cartridges are supplied with the pen, so you will need to buy those separately. Lamy do have a plunger converter that fits this pen, and allows you to use ink from a bottle rather than cartridges. I don't have an opinion either way as I use both bottle ink and cartridges in my pens. For young people, cartridges are probably the best way to go as they are least likely to have an accident with those. There's nothing worse than 50ml of ink getting spilled. I'm pleased with the item to be honest, it's a good pen for everyday general use. I was also quite surprised at the quality of this pen. I may be sceptical, but I really don't associate quality with low prices. But, this pen delivers on it's promise. A good quality, reliable fountain pen that writes well and is easy to use. Delivery was quick, and this arrived in excellent condition.

Good pens, colour coded!
Love these pens, can colour code them to match the ink colour for proof reading etc. and they come with a range of nib sizes, the fine nibs are ideal, and help reduce ink costs because they don't use as much ink! Only trouble for myself, is the size of the "resovoir" doesn't hold enough ink for my needs! But I do write a lot more than average.

Good writer
My husband is very pleased with this pen with one minor grumble. He bought the converter which did not fit well and when he finally got it into place, it had split the plastic where it is inserted. This however, has not impaired the use of the pen. He bought a bottle of permanent ink, secifically for foundtain pens, which does not clog up the pen and he says it always writes immediately when he has not used it for several days.

Lives up to its reputation
The LAMY safari was created to be a cheap robust pen for young students learning to write with fountain pens. What LAMY ended up with is a fine writing instrument at an accessible price that has made it a bit of a cult hit with fountain pen enthusiasts. I can see why, I like this pen a lot after just a little doodling with it. Yes, its plastic, but the finish and fit is solid. The light weight means less fatigue for extended writing, unless you particularly like heavier pens for that 'substantial' feel. Pen design is clean and functional, the packaging simple, keeping with its unpretentious aims of being an everyday pen. The nib is remarkable, it is well polished to make it easy and forgivable, ideal for everyday writing without the fuss or someone just beginning to learn penmanship. Mine writes dry (doesn't leave wet trails of ink) and smoothly for a fine nib. The line thickness is not the thinnest but quite typical (there are no standards by the way). The ink cartridge is unfortunately LAMY proprietary, it comes with a blue ink cartridge to get you started. You can easily get a converter so you can use bottled ink. Well pleased with this purchase. Update Sept 2012: Less than a year later and I have given in to buying a second LAMY Safari, in part so that I can have both black and blue inks, but mostly because I have grown quite fond of the trusty writing instrument with its understated good looking design. I opted for the glossy black finish but otherwise got the exact same pen and nib size. What really surprised me was the nib on my second pen was even smoother than my first. I have no doubt that my first purchase had a very good nib at a great price and I understand that with fountain pens there will always be subtle variations to each nib, but I think I got lucky with the second one that is outstanding. Upgraded rating with one more star, hats off to LAMY.

Wonderful pen, glad I took the risk to try
Love these pens. Very light and easy on the wrists. I like the lightness because it helps me to write faster and with total ease. Doesn't feel flimsy for the lightness though. Ink quality of lovely. Only issues is you have to keep using or it dries out but this is the nature of fountain pens and not a fault of the product, just my use of it

Love the fountain pen! The fine nib is perfect for me too. Comes with a blue cartridge so if you prefer black you have to order black cartridges separately. Delivery was super quick received day after ordering!
