## Description

Product description

Review: Quality and apparently very tasty - I am allergic to a lot of grass pollens, and real grain or seed-based diets set off my allergies (its not the feathers, its the pollen and dust from the feed!). This pelleted food impressed me as being healthier for both me, and my birds. Parrots really should not be eating a lot of seeds, or the mainly seed-based diets, because that is not their natural diet and some of them eat too much of it (too high in starch) and become malnourished. Actually, they like to crack the shells of seeds and that is probably why some parrots go crazy for seed-based bird foods - and become unhealthy. Sort of like humans and buttered popcorn, potato chips and dips. :) This is a high quality pelleted parrot food, and they eat almost every bit (some dust or bits spilled outside the cage are lost, but nothing like all the shells on the floor, or the claw-fulls of fancy colored pellets that one of my birds likes to throw - like a little baseball pitcher). If I don't have time to give them fresh or cooked treats, they can thrive on this pelleted food alone and never tire of it. So it is clean, easy to feed, approved by all my birds, and is reasonably priced - -no more than some of the other brands. Their feathers shine and have wonderful color after a few months on this feed. I like it that Tom Roudybush did his graduate studies at UC Davis at the famous animal nutrition department, and then set out to produce one of the most wholesome but reasonably-priced commercial bird foods. It still outperforms the other pellets, even if it doesn't look like eye-candy in the bowl. It is minimally processed, wholesome, and apparently tasty to parrots. The medium sized pellets are meant for my desertcart and pionus parrots, but sometimes they like the small or mini which are more "seed sized" and sometimes even the smaller birds enjoy gnawing on the larger sizes. It is funny to see a small bird clutching a chunk of large pellet in one foot and gnawing at it. BTW, if your bird is not used to pelleted food, and you want to get it to eat a new food, introduce very gradually. Also, empty the dish every day -- you don't want to find that the dish was full of shells of other seeds plus pellets, and your bird is going hungry because it refuses the strange new pellet. You might clean the dish in the morning and put just a few pellets in as a treat in the morning - -some birds pick them up as toys. Later in the day, add a day's worth of their old food on top of the pellets -- if any are left. For some birds, you might want to gradually increase pellets (only after signs that the bird does pick up and nibble at pellets) very very slowly, over a month or so, while decreasing the other foods. You might smear a tiny bit of peanut butter on a medium or large pellet and offer it as a "toy" (sneaky, but effective, if your bird likes peanut butter, as most parrots do). When your parrot clearly sees this as a special treat, you can then switch to this as its new food more quickly. My birds were raised with all sorts of foods, so are not picky, but given a choice, now will pick out the Roudybush pellets and eat them first! Fun to watch them hurrying to the food bowl and lingering over a size that fits nicely in their claw when they want to pick something up to eat as "hand food." :) I have not been able to buy Roudybush locally, and just bought a small bag to tide us over until next week when I will order a 10 lb bag.
Review: The only food my Indian ringneck will eat - This is the only bird food we feed our Indian ringneck, and he absolutely loves it. I’ve tried other brands in the past and he always picked around them, but he eats this one with no problem at all. The pellets are a good size, the quality seems consistent, and it keeps him healthy and happy. We buy it regularly and always keep a spare bag on hand.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: I know that I use to get the small pellets 10lb bag for the same 22 dollar price...question what makes small pellets twice the amount in dollars?**
A: Frankly, I wish I knew! I am VERY frustrated with the wild swings on the prices! We use both the small and the medium pellets as we have a Sun Conure who does well with the small and a pair of macaws that have trouble picking up the small pellets so they get the medium. I've looked back at my history and seen NO pattern to the pricing. Sometimes both sizes are the same cost per lb (which they SHOULD be) and other times they can be far apart. Last week I saw the medium pellets for 19 dollars for 10lb which higher than the per lb I last paid for getting 25lb for 44 dollars but is far cheaper than the 59 dollars the same bag was now! So I ordered 3 10lb bags. But the 10lb small pellets were NOT even close to 19 dollars! All of the pellets are made of the same extruded material, they just force it through different size holes in the die the same way press cookies are made. Here is just my last four orders showing how extreme the prices have swung:Frankly, I wish I knew! The prices WILDLY fluctuate for this but a lot of us put up with it since our birds have thrived on it for over ten years so far and the breeder we got them from has used it for 20+ years. There ISN'T any reason why any size should cost more since they are all made from the same "paste" mix. The only thing that changes is the die that they extrude it through (think of the cookies that are squeezed through a mold into shapes) is changed to a different size. I just bought some medium two days ago in 10lb bags when I really wanted a 25lb because the price for the 25lb was much higher per lb. So today (AFTER the order shipped, of course) the price of the 25lb came back down... grrr! Anyway, here are my last 4 orders just to show you that even with my tiny sample you can see a range from 1.87lb to 4.26lb for the same exact pellets! BTW, I left out the dollar signs on purpose since often the Amazon system won't allow prices to be posted in case it was a sleazy site trying to entice people to go buy things from them instead of here. I wouldn't fall for it but I suppose some might.Well, on November 3, 2015 I paid $46.79 + $6.99 shipping for 25lb medium, in July 2015 I paid 17.49 per bag for 10lb bags of both small and medium size pellets, in 42.64 Jan2016 for 10lb smallToday's prices:https://www.amazon.com/Roudybush-Daily-Maintenance-Bird-10-Pound/dp/B003SLNPE6/ $42.64 4.264lbhttps://www.amazon.com/Roudybush-Daily-Maintenance-Small-10-Pound/dp/B0007P13TK/ $42.64 4.264lbhttps://www.amazon.com/Roudybush-Daily-Maintenance-Small-25-Pound/dp/B0002GLYFM/ $56.16 2.264lbhttps://www.amazon.com/Roudybush-Daily-Maintenance-Medium-10-Pound/dp/B000WFKRWO/ 19.99 1.999lbhttps://www.amazon.com/Roudybush-Daily-Maintenance-Medium-25-Pound/dp/B0002GLYHU/ $46.79 1.872lbhttps://www.amazon.com/Roudybush-Daily-Maintenance-Large-10-Pound/dp/B001MSTLTK/ 33.10 3.310lb

**Q: Is this product non gmo? i have looked everywhere even on the site and can not find an answer to this.. pls help?**
A: Hello,
Roudybush products are made from all natural ingredients but are not certified organic or GMO free.

**Q: Does this contain soybeans? If so, how far down the list is it?**
A: Since the ingredients change from time to time, the answer to this question will change over time - Roudybush just changed their formula a few months ago, so you should check with the seller you wish to purchase from. I can only speak to the supply we are selling right now as of this answer, and that would be that soybean meal is the third ingredient, and soybean oil is the fourth.

**Q: s this product non gmo? i have looked everywhere even on the site and can not find an answer to this.. pls help?**
A: I’m pretty sure it isn’t noted as being GMO.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Quality and apparently very tasty
*by C***S on April 8, 2014*

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The only food my Indian ringneck will eat
*by A***N on November 15, 2025*

This is the only bird food we feed our Indian ringneck, and he absolutely loves it. I’ve tried other brands in the past and he always picked around them, but he eats this one with no problem at all. The pellets are a good size, the quality seems consistent, and it keeps him healthy and happy. We buy it regularly and always keep a spare bag on hand.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Simply the Best Choice for your Feathered Friends
*by C***C on August 22, 2016*

Love Roudybush for our 2 Sun Conures and 2 Caiques. It is simply the best researched, best quality product for your feathered friends. Zupreem is also solid, though having tried both, I'd say our birds prefer the Roudybush and seem to be healthier and happier when we feed it to them. At the very least it's reassuring that this is the food several respected breeders and aviaries use. It's also been scientifically formulated and researched over the years, and has been shown to increase lifespan by as much as 10 years over seed-based diets. That said, do not buy PrettyBird -- which is cheap poor quality. And do not expect your birds to love it if you've been feeding them seed. It will take time to transition them over, but they will adjust in time. Starting with RB as a mix-in and increasing the proportion daily is a good way. We also found that letting our Sun sit in the bag and dig in it worked well -- as funny as that is. We used to do all seed (thinking this was the right thing to do) and learned later how important it is to balance our birds diets with more organic (non-seed foods). Now we use mostly Roudybush and fresh fruit daily, with just a small amount of seed (either as a treat some days, or as a mix in -- though we've found that mixing the two is sometimes counter productive as one of our Suns will dump all the pellets on the floor of the cage trying to get the seed). One note -- this medium size can work for Caiques and Conures (esp if you have the kind who like to crunch things up), but we find the smaller size suits our birds better. Just good to know you can buy this in a pinch if the small size is out of stock when you need it.
