A great read.
I have been reading a few books on the vietnam conflict of late & this is a really addictive read. What those guys & women went though that served there was something that i would have not liked to experience their bravery was incredible considering the circumstances, a really good book.

Excellent eye-opener to the huge variations in the war we experienced.
Everyone had a different war, based on assignment, MOS, location, time period, attitude, unit, etc. This assortment of several GI's variety of all of those was truly an eye opener for me, having served as a 5-man MAT team commander in Pleiku Province, 1970-71. Well written and very informative.

The Heartbreak of Vietnam
This is an "old" book, but I didn't know about it at the time it was published. In re-uniting with an college friend recently, he told me he wrote a chapter in it. The men and women wrote very powerful stories, haunting and sad. I'm glad I waited till now to read it, I was more ready--especially after Ken Burns' wonderful documentary last year, Vietnam. The stories in the book are REAL, as are the feelings. Those of us who lived through this war, especially those who were young adults at the time, will never forget nor fully understand it. The stories in this book help. My heart still breaks for each and every person who served in Vietnam, the dead and the living.

'Nam From 33 Perspectives
"Everything We Had" is an oral history of the Vietnam War as told by 33 individual participants. I'd bet that, if you happened to know any of these individuals, you could tell exactly who they were--the book is written exactly as spoken. In other words, the Kings English gives way to euphemisms and questionable grammar, all for the sake of authenticity. The length of the stories runs from less than a page to 8-10 pages, and they all get right to the point. These guys and gals (several female warriors are included) had varying views on their service and experiences. Some questioned leadership and the necessity of being in Vietnam at all. But all gave everything they had. I'm not sure how the author selected these people, but he's done us a great service. If the Vietnam War is of interest to you, "Everything We Had" is definitely worth a look.
