No it cannot. The seat is attached to the back of the bench with hinges.

The cushion is not removable. It’s attached to the back with hinges that allows you to open it for storage. The storage area is not deep but I have stacked reems of copy paper and other office supplies inside.

Q: How high is the seat?

I’m not quite sure how to measure but adults sit comfortably and children climb onto it gleefully. Everyone loves this bench and the color is beautiful. It also has a handy storage under the seat.
