This is better than Drop it, Leave it, No!
We have probably all met the owner who states that their dog can and will not eat anything other than roast organic unicorn meat and drinks only volcanic spring waterHowever it does not appear to stop them consuming the contents of bins, nappies, cat litter trays, putrefying corpses, fast food outlet wrappers as well as drinking from the toilet. And, whatever we feed our dogs, we would prefer if they did not scavenge for various reasons not least of which the danger of accidental, or even deliberate, poisoning.Simone is at pains to remind the reader that how they behave around their dog’s food bowl can directly impact on their dog’s behaviour when they find forbidden fruit outdoors! The author then goes on to describe how to play the Forget It game in detail and through progressive levels of difficulty. She takes pains to state that it is not always necessary to use food on the ground for those owners who are extremely reluctant to do so perhaps due to a previous bad experience.Of course one of the key components in this training plan is advice on how to remove potentially dangerous items from your dog’s mouth and Simone provides advice on how to teach Open Your Mouth and/or Drop It!This book would be very useful for any owner as a stand-alone publication as well as being an excellent addition to the previous two to complete the set.

Practical and empathetic
So so helpful. We have implemented just the management tips and I've already seen a big reduction in my labrador's intense scavenging behaviour :) we are both really happy with this book!I especially love how it encourages you to think of the problem in an empathetic way, when scavenging can be so frustrating and worrying to a dog owner who is scared of their dog getting sick. It makes so much more sense to me now - he loves to eat and of course he would really love seeking out novel tastes/smells. Its a relief to be able to work on this in a cooperative and kind rather than mutually stressful, controlling way. I love the progressions of the training skills - it makes it feel a lot more achievable and less overwhelming.I'm confident that the training will really help him to be able to leave potentially dangerous stuff on the ground. He already loves the structured scavenging games more than going off by himself to find chicken bones in the park. And we're both so glad that we dont have to restrict activities he loves, like eating his meals scattered in the grass.Thankyou so much Simone for this amazing resource 🐾

Great read, easy to follow training
The media could not be loaded. I just love all Simone's books so this one didn't disappoint me either.. it contains clear explanation on the behaviours and then practical exercises. All would be easy to follow and it has some troubleshooting stuff too. I'm familiar with the training ( I use 'leave it' training ) but it's nice to see it explained in a different way , might help me when I explain things to my own customers. I loved it, would definitely recommend it.

Another brilliant book
One of my dogs will find anything and everything edible or not and try and eat it so this was a book I really needed to have! The explanations of the why and how of the training are clear and very easy to follow. The activities in each stage of the training are really clear and well explained with how and when to move on with the next step or troubleshooting if things aren’t going to plan. I have loved the fact that I have been able to put the training into practice so quickly and easily because the book is so well written and clear you can just get on with it.

Excellent book!!
I absolutely loved this book. The way it is set out is also incredibly helpful. The author starts with the whys and hows, to help give the reader a better understanding of their dog's behaviour. She then breaks the exercises down into easy to understand steps and explains why each exercise is useful. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who has a dog (not just for those with scavengers).

Easy to read and simple techniques
This book gave me some really great ideas. My dog eats all the cat poop in the neighborhood and I didn't remember that cat food has a bunch of flavorizers. I started giving her opportunities to safely scavenge wet cat food and just with that her grabs for grossness have decreased. I appreciate that the writing is simple so even my frazzled end of the day brain could read it without much effort. It's not easy to find dog books that I know come from reputable trainers using science-based methods and not outdated "pack hierarchy" nonsense. This author is great!
