This book claims to take one from the start of a repair job to the finish. In fact it does nothing of the sort. For example. What grit of sandpaper should one start with? How far down should the sanding go? What is the final grit before applying a primer coat? How many coats of primer are appropriate - and how long between coats (maximum and minimum) - and should one sand between coats? What grit of sandpaper should one use on the primer before applying a paint coat? How many paint coats - and how long should one wait in between coats - and should one sand between coats? After the paint is applied, what sandpaper should be used before a clear coat? How many clear coats are appropriate?This is the information a beginner would expect in a book that claims to cover the work "From Prep to Final Coat"!

This has been an eye-opener for an ex-painter. Things have changed since the 70's. This book demystifies new products and techniques. Loaded with photos, material lists and how-tos. Well written and offers a lot of things to be aware of.

spent to much on products and tools and not enough on how to do body work of different levels of difficulty

I have read a number of excellent books from this series and have held off on my review of this book. I found it to be overrun with advertisements and product references. I understand having a few but it was almost as if every sentence was calling out a specific product to be used.Discussions of candy paints, pin striping, etc are of no value to me and should be in a separate book. The title seemed misleading in my opinion as I wanted a very basic and thorough course on paint. The author touches very lightly on a bajillion topics and leaves the reader wanting more on every page. This book taught me nothing other than the author's sponsor list for its creation.

I was pleasantly surprised by the level of detail. Well written, covers all the important topics. This is probably the best of the "how to paint your car" books out there.
