When morality decays like zombieflesh
"They're going to feel pretty stupid when they find out." "Find out what?" "They're [messing] with the wrong people." While I thoroughly enjoyed volumes 9 & 10, I felt in many ways they retreaded old ground & that perhaps after improving with every volume, this series had finally hit its peak. But volume 11 totally proved me wrong, as it contains a couple of unexpected, incredibly disturbing & ethically murky scenes. It also made me realise that the last few volumes have been leading up to something... The survivors continue their journey across a zombie-infested America, heading for Washington & hopefully towards something resembling a government, while avoiding a massive heard consisting of thousands of undead. But when they get themselves into trouble & are forced to pitch camp, they find themselves being hunted by another well-armed group of survivors. However, after everything Rick & co. have been through & with Rick becoming more of a psycho with every turn of a page, who are the predators & who are the prey? If you've never read it before, don't mistake The Walking Dead for just another zombie story. I always felt zombie films & novels didn't quite have the guts to go far enough but this series takes up ever deeper into a horrific, amoral world where the full implications of having to do ANYTHING to survive are thoroughly explored. In that way, it's a unique, exciting & challenging read.

Liked it so much, I bought two!
I collected all of these editions of TWD as they came out. This one got damaged when an adjacent storage unit flooded and seeped into ours, so I purchased this replacement copy. For a new reader starting from scratch, though, I would suggest considering the larger compendiums that contain the equivalent of about four of these volumes, as those have additional content such as cover artwork from the original monthly comic book editions. Nonetheless, this is a very nicely formatted edition and still a much cheaper way of purchasing the series than would have been individual comic books. Nice on the shelf too.

Deadly Read :)
Have bought all the volumes for my son who is a massive Walking Dead fan. We do all watch the TV programme together, but he loves these graphical novels, they are very well drawn and the story is a little different from the TV program so if you enjoy the program I think these are a great read. :)

Not all monsters are undead
The zombies take a back seat in this the eleventh book of the series as Rick and the gang discover that not every thing that stalks you in the woods is undead. That's not to say the walking dead don't make regular appearances, just that they're not the biggest bad out to eat our heroes. Three of the cast die in this episode too and there is a new and not entirely welcome addition. As usual the story twists and turns in ways you would never expect and our heroes are faced with a terrible dilemna no one should have to face, but who will solve it? More great stuff and tempting me to buy more than one a month, perhaps the tv series starting on Friday will help me to resist!
