A brilliant device
***As of January 3rd 2013 Jelly bean update has been available*** I'll start by saying that I previously acknowledged tablets as being mostly a novelty device but could also see some of the media benefits also. My birthday is in two days and my fiance surprised me by saying I could have any tablet that I wanted and of course I went into 'research mode' and looked at the Samsung tab 1 and 2, iPad 1, 2 and 3, the Asus tf300 and both transformer tablets. All of them have their positives and negatives, although I was never going to get an iPad is I'm not an apple fan, I'm always inclined towards power under the hood rather than the 'look its shiney' approach. The galaxy note 10.1 offers the power, the looks and the functionality that anyone could possibly desire. Some review sites say this tablet is cheap looking and feels worse, I implore you to ignore them, its usually apple fans who say this, even I was a tad worried but the moment I held it in my hands I knew I'd made the right choice. Amazon's listing of this product is wrong at the moment, this is indeed the quad core, 2gb ram and 16gb internal storage. I almost purchased this from another company due to poor listing but i have informed Amazon of their mistake and hopefully they will alter the listing. One thing I do like on this tablet is the use of the pen, I've downloaded a free app called sketcher off the play market and it's brilliant. I would recommend people to download the Google chrome app straight away as the built in internet app can throw a few hissy fits now and then and chrome seems to work nicely on this tablet. Now, onto the screen, I cannot believe that some reviewer websites said it wasn't good, are they looking at the back of the tablet, the pre loaded video shows how vibrant it truly is, the viewing angles are very good also, cannot complain at all. Just for anyone who is curious, the pre loaded Photoshop app only allows editing from what I can tell, you can't start sketching in it, but it's free so have a play with your photos and it's a nifty little app. (someone has informed me that you can in fact create work from the PS app as well) I would recommend that when you get this brilliant tablet you also order a 32GB micro sd card that is class 10, you've then got a lot of storage space for films, music and pictures you want on the go. I've only had this tablet for about 4 days now and I haven't been able to make the most out of all the facilities it offers such as the multitasking split screen, and from what I have researched it is the only tablet on the market that truly multi tasks. On a foot note, no need for a kindle anymore, downloaded the app and works great. All in this has been a great purchase for me, and I'm very happy I took the plunge, who needs a laptop anymore! EDIT 15th September - I have now been using this device more and more each day, I set up "Peel Remote" which comes pre-installed o nthe device which enables you to turn on, change channels, volume up down on many many TV's and blu ray players, i linked it up to two LG TV's very easily and also a Sony Blu Ray player. I'm a bit disappointed that it doesnt work on Playsations 3's but it is still a possibility for an update in the future! I've carried out a few different battery life checks. I charged my Galaxy Note 10.1 up to 100% before i went to sleep at midnight and by morning (8 hours later) it had dropped to only 97%. That very day i used it very sparingly to just check the time and to do a quick browse whilst at work between 9AM and 5PM and the battery only dropped down to about 90%. Yesterday I used it a lot at work, setting up routers, browsing the web, watching some videos on youtube and netflix, the Note started the day on 52% and by the time I had gotten home It was still on 35% even though I'd not been cautious with it. Pretty much what I'm saying is the battery seems excellent to me, I couldn't be more happy with it. I've been spending a lot of time trying to fill up my 32GB Micro SD card with digital copies of the blu rays i possess and 99% of them have gone across very easily, my only fripe is that digital copies provided are not 720p or 1080p so im looking into some blu ray ripping software and a converter so I can at least play my films in HD otherwise having such a lovely screen is pointless! EDIT - I have now put Avengers 1080p onto my tablet now and wow, it looks SO good on this tablet, and the best thing is, i wasn't suprised, i expected it to be good and it looked as great as i anticipated. The audio is the best ive heard on any tablet so far and actually much better than most laptops on the market (excluding the HP laptops with the beats audio) I have ordered a 3rd party Case since my last edit and it seems to be sufficient for now until the official Samsung case is released, which i would imagine will be very well put together. I shall add more to this review when I learn more things, I just think its such a shame that reviewing websites do not give this the recognition it deserves when I myself absolutely LOVE IT! EDIT 23/11/2012 Had this Tablet for quite a while and used it pretty much everyday and still loving every second of it. Now, don't get me wrong I'm not one of these people who just praise an item without giving the negatives, but so far I've only experienced very few. One fault that I have noticed that occurs once in a blue moon is whilst using the Google Chrome Web browser, it can sometimes lock up, but the best way of rectifying this is by pressing the upward facing arrow located at the bottom centre of the screen which opens up multiple things such as calculator emails etc, but it also loads up task manager. If you select task manager and clear the RAM and close down the Google chrome application it will restart the browser where it left off and continue to work absolutely fine. One thing that has been pointed out to me is not many people have commented about audio on the device. The device comes with a pre-installed application that plays music once transferred onto it, which if you are used to Android based devices you should be familiar with. The actual quality of the audio is decent, I'm not saying "wow who needs surround sound" but it plays the music well, it gives out better audio than my HTC One X which has beats audio. One last thing I have noticed is that with a screen protector on, sometimes it does not like to smoothly scroll the screen when you have it landscape, but if you alter the device to portrait it seems to be absolutely fine. I'm going to put this down to perhaps my lack of talent in applying a screen sover to the tablet. Once again, If I learn any new tricks or helpful hints I'll update this review further.

Ignore Website Reviews - This is an Outstanding Tablet
The Galaxy Note 10.1 has been subject to the most savage negative reviews by the majority of the web review sites and magazines. Almost all of their reviews are unjustified, prejudiced and in some cases contain plain misinformation. As you can see from reviews here by people who actually use it, it has deservedly been well-received. Let's look at some of the online review statements: 1. One reviewer said it was poorly constructed, creeks, is flimsy and flexes. All of these statements are untrue. While not as solid as the ipad, the Note is perfectly adequate in construction and mine does not creek or warp. 2. Another reviewer said it was thick, heavy and cumbersome. In fact it is roughly the same thickness as any ipad and lighter than the current ipad. It is one of the lightest tablets of its size. 3. Yet another review stated that the display stuttered and lagged. It doesn't lag, and is smoother still if you remove the unnecessary and large widgets on the home screen. 4. Another reviewer said that the S pen was a gimmick and this tablet would only appeal to graphic designers. This is nonsense. Even without the S pen the Note is a very good all round tablet, and its quad core CPU and 2 gigs of RAM outclasses almost all other similar-sized tablets. 5. There are universal complaints about the "low" res display. In fact the display is vibrant and perfectly fine. It is also sharp and is quite clearly a lower resolution than the ipad because the Wacom system for the pen works better in this resolution. 6. Almost all the reviewers stated that it looks cheap and "plasticky" In fact it looks very smart, particularly the white version, and I prefer plastic because it is easier to hold, is less likely to break when dropped, and the wi-fi signal is better through a plastic case. What these website reviews reveal is that the authors of them did little more than open up the box, fire up the Note and play around with it for a while, not actually using it for constructive or productive purposes. I did not want a giant version of my iphone. I wanted a tablet to web browse, send emails, do WORK, write, sketch, play movies, listen to music and use it for a host of functions all of which it does exceedingly well. The one justification at the time of release were comments about the price compared to the ipad, but those comments are now redundant since the CURRENT price of the Note 10.1 is £317, less the Samsung cash back offer which brings the price down to £267. This makes it not only £130 cheaper than an ipad but cheaper than the ipad mini, and that's because Apple keeps very tight control over pricing. So the current price makes it the highest spec tablet at the lowest price of all tablets in its class and this represents a bargain. My one reservation is the lack of USB port and no HDMI out. That is a blot on this otherwise brilliant tablet, the first I have owned (and I've owned quite a few) that actually allows me to produce meaningful work, but it is also very good as a media consumption device. In the next few months with html 5 coming on stream and further Android updates I have no doubt that its hardware will make it smoother still to use, since its multi-core CPU and large RAM will cope very well with multi tasking, and it does this quite well even now. Don't be put off by the obsessive fixation on retina displays comparisons in reviews. The Note's display is still very very good.

Samsung Note
Great Tablet. Easy to use but as a windows and long term keyboard user, i am finding the transition to tablet use somewhat frustrating. Lots of good points, lots of apps to download, very portable (obviously), nice clear screen, very touch responsive. However, it won't connect to my wifi Kodak printer and tells me it can only connect to a samsung printer (maybe there is an app to overcome this) and it doesn't have flash and websites tell me that samsung have not developed an equivalent - so websites showing flash-based pictures / videos don't work (there is prob an app somewhere to deal with that too but I have a life outside of this tablet !) It doesn't work well with my web-based business email programme (123 Reg), the screen freezes and its difficult to use the onscreen keyboard to type text into an email, if I lose my place in the emai, getting the cursor back on track is a nightmare and this is one of the primary reasons I bought this tablet, to be able to access and deal with my email on the go. (No doubt, there is probably an app to help deal with this problem too - wonder if there is an app to make my teenage son tidy his bedroom?). Nevertheless, it's a nice piece of kit but probably more useful for syncing your Samsung smartphone to (as a colleage of mine does). I find it is more comfortable to use than balancing my lappy on my lappy.. just to surf the net.

Galaxy Note 10.1 16gb wifi
I had a Galaxy Tab P1000 7 inch for the last 2 years and decided it was time to upgrade. Having had two years of no issues, and almost flawless operation (except when caused by user error or dodgy installs!), replacing it was going to be a tall order. Reading various online reviews left me with a little trepidation about this product. Everyone seems to think that the screen is rubbish and that the response from it is too slow. Yet there the feature set seemed perfect for what I want it for. I must have one of the few Note 10.1s that have the extra "boost" package then. This tablet is, quite frankly, outstanding. Yes, it doesn't have the full 1920x1080 display of the ASUS Transformer, however it's display is fantastic. Bright, clear and ideal for the size of the tablet. OK it's not an IPad display, but then again it's not designed to be. It's a work horse. Designed to let you get the job done, not just look pretty. The overall impression is one of a quality build. Unlike the reviews, I don't find the Note 10.1 flimsy in any way. Very well made. The OS (including TouchWiz) is very responsive. I happen to love the new Touchwiz look. Very snazzy. However where it truly excels is with the multitasking and S-Pen. Being able to run multiple programs (ok, only select ones at the moment, but that will change I expect) is finally what tablets should be doing. I can't believe it's taken so long for manufacturers to actually get this. I love being able to copy and paste with a click and drag style. I can actually start to work on the tablet the way I do on my desktop. S-Pen. Great! I used to have an old windows phone years ago that was great for handwriting recognition, for some reason it seemed to be dropped from most phones and replaced with just a keyboard. (OK you could get apps for this but they were, frankly, not great). The S-Pen brings this back. The recognition is really accurate. It even manages to cope with my scrawl. The pen is very accurate and allows far more control of images, Photoshop etc than most others I've used. Overall, as you'll probably have gathered, I love this Tablet. If you want a gaming machine, go elsewhere, there are cheaper, and better systems for that. If you want a full hd screen then look at the IPad or the ASUS Transformer Infinity. If you want a tablet that you can actually work on, get stuff done the way you want to, then this is it. One adddition, the included s-pen is a little small for my tastes, I "upgraded" it to the Samsung S-Pen Holder kit. Samsung Pen Holder Kit for Galaxy Note It works a treat and makes it into a proper sized pen!

Had an iPad.... why did I bother?
Hello, let me get one thing straight from the start; Apple are not as user or customer friendly as they make out they are. Ok, so Apple products are built in a way that makes them great for a trained monkey to use, but apart from that they are just shiny bit of flotsam. I love tech and nothing gives me greater joy than tinkering around with a new thing. I fell for the Apple line hook line and sinker, I thought that millions of people surely can't be wrong and I bought an iPad. I had a Samsung Galaxy s2 phone at the time and the camera broke and I was feeling a little bit angry at Samsung. The iPad 3 arrived and I really did like it. It was simple and the retina display was very pleasing on the eye. Once I knew it inside and out, I jailbroke it so I could do more with it and then they bought out ios6 and all my fun was lost. 6 months later they bought out the iPad4, which was basically a kick in the teeth for all those that had bought the 3. A few months ago, I decided to give Samsung another try and bought my beloved Galaxy S3. I truly adore this phone and it is what I was looking for. I read recently that the Galaxy note 10.1 had had mixed reviews, but then I saw many people saying great things on Amazon and I decided to buy one. Ok.... I know that Samsung are bringing out a newer model in 2013, but the current model is really damn good. Jelly bean will be nice as things are a bit laggy and I think that 10.1 users deserve some buttery goodness as with S3 owners. The Spen is a nice touch, but it would be nice to calibrate it by 1 or 2 pixels. The premium suite should give us some extra happiness as currently, to copy and paste and make presentations, does require about half a dozen menu presses. The camera is good for a 5mp camera, but low light can make things a little grainy. I assure you that all the faults I have just mentioned are not problems. For 317 quid, this is lovely. It does everything and more than you could ever want it to do. The reviews about the screen not being high res enough are rubbish. Maybe it's not perfect but the technology behind the incredibly smooth spen, can't allow for a higher resolution. I do have one grumble though.... if you already have 50gb through the Samsung and Dropbox promotion, they won't give you anymore if you buy the Note 10.1 bye. December 27th Update... After having the note for nearly three weeks, I just want to add some more views. I updated it to jellybean and the premium suite and it has improved it tremendously. It really is difficult to live without... I would recommend that you also buy a good case as it is perfect for movies and won't stand up on its own. Battery life is at between 7-8 hours on full pelt. I also recommend getting a class 10 sdcard. I bought a great 64gb one here on Amazon and it will store more movies than I can shake a stick at. Being Android, it can stick at times, but this is very rare and on the whole, the os works great.

Amazon is misseling ths product - updated
Updated 31/12/12- see end of this review for more details: This product's description WAS misleading people into buying this product from Amazon. (Update - they stopped using this page as of 31/12 or a couple of days earlier). Amazon WAS guilty (when they were selling using this page that is) on misrepresenting this product on 4 counts: 1)Technical spec says it supports: Network: HSPA+ 21 Mbps (850/900/1900/2100), i.e. better then 3G mobile connectivity. In fact there is no SIM slot as I discovered. 2)The photo of the back of this product also shows G3 printed on the back of the item. As I say no 3G. I think it is illegal to show a different ptoduct and sell a lower spec one? 3)The photo of the box of the product is cut off so the model number is not visible. The full photo would heave shown GT-N8010 product code - Apparently Amazon does not want customer to see it. 4)There WAS no Samsung product code mentioned anywhere on this page. - see end of this post for details. IMHO Amazon is trying to make customers to buy from them by making sure that people buying this product think that they are buying a 3G version (which is about £80-100 more expensive). I could buy this tablet from other sellers for the same price with less problems. 0 stars for misrepresenting product. I think they just can't send people random items and hide vital information like model numbers. Update 31/12/12. 1)Amazon has now added "Product Details" section with actual Model number they are selling (GT-N8010). I know that as I saved original page when I bought it - there was no Product Details and no Model number anywhere. 2)Amazon now stopped using this page (as specs and picture of the back showing 3G are still wrong). Basically this was the point of this review. As customers we have a right to be provided with correct information by any seller. And this is not something we should put up with. Well done Amazon for publishing this Review though! At least they are trying to improve (after being told about 10 times :-) ).

Great but needs a few tweeks.
Let me start by saying the tablet is awesome. I have read some gripes about the resolution of the screen but to be honest it isn't an issue. It plays movies at 1080, fonts are crystal clear and the stylus is accurate, nothing much more to say on that. The bad:- The power lead is too short, (USB extension lead is the answer). Multitasking is too limited in the choice of apps, e.g. my wife was so excited, she could listen to you-tube and read the internet glossy, oops, no, only a few apps can be multi-tasked. Hopefully the premium suite upgrade will sort that out, (due soon in the UK along with Android 4.1). Feels a bit plastic... though it isn't as flexible or weak as some have demonstrated. To get a flex on the back panel you would really have to be trying to crush it. The camera is DIRE! Really is poor quality, though who would try taking snaps with this other than Dom Joly... The good:- It's great value at £317.00 It's fast, (once you clear out the junk apps). Battery lasts a long time, (mine is still going from out of the box two days ago without charge and it's been used constantly and still shows 55%). Stylus is awesome, my 4 year old uses it for practicing his letters, already saved me a fortune in paper! I love it for note taking and sketching my latest dastardly schemes on! Sound is easily the best from any tablet, stereo speakers are perfect for watching movies. Screen is clear and bright. So to sum up, get it now while its £317 on amazon, don't get annoyed by the few weak points as once Premium Suite and 4.1 are released in the UK most of the frustrations are going to be sorted.

Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1
Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 inch Tablet - White (ARM Cortex A9 1.4GHz, 16GB, Wi-Fi, BT, Android 4.0) The Samsung Note 10.1 has some amazing reviews here on Amazon, thus I was quite expectant once I made the decision to purchase one over the rest of the Android market. First of all, I had already made my mind to go Android, I did look at the iPads, infact I looked very closely at iPads. The decision wasn't made due to comparisons, the Note and iPad are on par, each holding niche advantages over each other. I choose to go Note 10.1 because of my love affair with Android, and the quality assurance a huge manufacturer like Samsung can provide. Reviews for most Android tablets were really helpful, the Nexus etc all contenders, but the Note 10.1 did it for me. The unit itself lives up to expectation, there's no need for me to repeat other reviews, here, needless to say it's every part as good as I expected, and like I said my expectation ran very high. Screen response is superb, bright, crystal clear. Netflix is superb on it, the microSD allowed me to use a spare 32gb card I had laying around with my MP3s on it - Google Chrome went straight down on it, works like a dream, facebook app and a couple of dozen other apps from Google Play as well. The device plugs into my computer just fine, and can drag / drop files to and from with no fuss as well, which for me is really important. For the toddler (19 month old daughter), she loves the SPEN, she doodles away on it, saves me lots of floor and wallpaper cleaning supplies! The SPEN actually is very good, I now use the tablet at work to take notes in meetings, and has been (this far) extremely good. I have only really touched on about 10% of the device capability, and had it approx a week, it does it all. My Christmas shopping this year has been a giggle, and last night I used the Tesco app to order my groceries. Oh the fun you can have! One last thing, in my mind, no need to get the 3GS version if you already have another Android phone... I tether my Galaxy Note 10.1 to my Galaxy S3 3G connection, flawless. Internet where ever I am, so long as there's signal. Two things that will really help folks thinking of getting one of these units, and saved me a lot of frustration is to consider the following products. 1, The all important case. I purchased one of these, and I could not need / want a better case for it outside of purchasing a genuine Samsung item - fits perfectly, no slip, no slide, and protects sides and screen extremely well when not in use (various colours, but as I got a white unit, it only seemed fitting to get white case). eLifeStore® Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 Tablet Stand Leather Case Cover Multi-Function Flip Pouch with Touch Stylus Pen's Holder Design, includes FREE Bonus Gift: High Quality Screen Protector (GT-N8000 / GT-N8010) (White) 2, Screen protector. Take my advice here. You only need one, once on it'll last you literally forever, and it's a top quality protection film. If you have a Curries / PCWorld near you, or within reasonable travel distance. Take your new tablet (still with Samsung screen cover on it, don't be tempted to pull it off right away!) to the store, and purchase a Belkin ScreenGuard Tru-Clear Samsung certified screen protector for Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 and Note 10.1. At £10 it's a pricey option compared to the 3 pack screen covers on Amazon, but the absolute beauty of this is it's covered by lifetime warranty - AND the folks at PCWorld will put the screen cover on for you... If they screw up / you're not satisfied (has bubbles / hair / fluff etc), they will put another on for you, and another until you're 100% happy with it. Genius. (PC World in store product code: 008322). Should your screen fall off etc, scratch or fail somehow, your receipt will grant you another. It really is the best thing ever for £10. Overall I'm over the moon with the unit, and if you're in the market for a 10.1 Tablet, I cant recommend this enough, it's a superb piece of kit.
