I'm no expert about these things, but this looks like a really nice baton. It feels great in the hand, well balanced and light. The fiberglass shaft is just a little rough, which is pretty normal for fiberglass, but it is solid, and bright when any amount of light hits it, so it should be fairly visible.The case is strong and provides ample protection. I did find it interesting that one end pulls out relatively easily, as if designed to do so, while the other end is threaded to screw on and off. Options are good, I guess. The screw end also has a small ring which could be used to attach a tag. or... a tassel? A music themed charm? I don't know, it's there, I'm sure it has some special use that's only known to those who have reached the mystical mastery of conductor, so they'll know what to do with it.

I would say that these are good for casual use for a chorus or for students who are learning. They look okay, but they definitely feel plastic and entry-level.The ad says they are good for a gift, but I would get something a little higher quality for a music major. Still, they get the job done.
