An Environmental Scientist who Really Gets It!
No nonsense, but with no compromises, either. Dorr is not afraid to call out his colleagues for their historically flawed approach to environmental science as he makes his compelling case that technological progress is the foundation for solving Earth’s and humanity’s most pressing problems. Not way off in the future, but here and now. An inspiring read!

Good Overview of the Future
If you are looking to get a good view into what the next 10 years are going to bring or have a friend that needs to think more optimistically about the future then this is the book. Adam Door does a good job of plainly walking through the trends already at work and how the future will change for the better. Also, how that future can repair the damage we have done to the environment. All of this and properity too.

Excellent read
Although wild eyed liberalism occasionally rears it's head (at least to this 83 year old conservative!) In the whole an uplifting look into the near future

To understand the future of the environment and humanity, there is no better place to start
Full Disclosure: I work with Adam and have for five years.I worked with him as he developed his earlier works ‘Rethinking Energy’ and ‘Rethinking Climate Change’. If you have read those, you will know that Adam is full of brilliant and counter-intuitive ideas about the environment, technology, the economy, human rights, and peoples’ role in shaping the future, both collectively and individually. If you have seen his TEDx talk from Glasgow, Scotland (check YouTube), then you will also know that Adam is a superb communicator whose charisma and infectious optimism flow from his deep understanding of his subjects, and his unique insights as to their implications.I know that he has had this book, Brighter, simmering in his mind for a long time and what you will get when you read it is literally years of Adam’s thinking and insights distilled down into a single work. If you want to understand the future of the environment and the future of humanity, there is no better place to start. The topics are technical in nature, but Adam’s writing is very conversational, making this book accessible and understandable to anyone who wants to know where humanity is headed. In this book, Adam shows the way. All you have to do is follow

A brilliant summary of technological disruptions that will ultimately save the environment and the humanity
A much needed counter narrative of the environemental doom and gloom that seems to dominate the mass media and most people today. The main message of the book is that technology has the potential to not only save us from the environmental problems, it can also restore the nature and free us from the limitations and dependence. The book also urges us to start thinking seriously about the changes that will come, and how to navigate the disruptive transformations that are necessary. This is critical as the necessary changes will sometimes also cause collateral damage such as harming peoples and cultures in the short term. “Protect the people not the companies” is a good slogan to keep in mind in navigating this transition. This book should be required reading for everyone to understand where the world is heading through technological change.

If I could I would make this essential reading in High School
Despite the danger of making this essential reading (that it turn boring) the message and understanding promoted within these pages is profound. The future is full of promise and the problems we have that seem so insurmountable are things that (with additional engineering and time) become solvable. So much of the information given to teens is full of dread and pessimism that and this provides a healthy counterbalance.

Dorr's work should be required reading for everyone who cares about the future!
Dorr's work "Brighter: Optimism, Progress and the Future of Environmentalism, is in the vanguard of a new way to think about our relationship with earth, from zero-sum to "win-win". He provides myriad examples of how solutions with exponential potential are not beyond our reach and how they will result in a shared prosperity and a brighter future for humanity. This book is written in an accessible & conversational style that makes it especially useful for students & as a framework to guide their overall orientation to environmentalism, from "how dare you" to "daring!" ...

Uplifting and enlightening must-read book
This book is super inspiring! Also, it's really compelling and has fun examples throughout so it's an easy read. And really eye-opening - I had no idea about these four disruptions (energy, transportation, food and labor) or their role in potentially solving environmental problems. The author does a wonderful job of providing accessible and tangible explanations for complex ideas. Definitely provides a much needed and refreshingly optimistic perspective that climate change - a problem even worse than we are led to believe - is a solvable problem. Viva la disruption!

If your willing to listen to a optimistic future this is good.
Basically this book talk's about why you should be optimistic about the future. This book points out there is many new technology's coming that will change how we will go from a energy starved and extractive economy to one where energy is abundant and our we can begin to heal our planet while still growing economically. If you are interested in more details rethink_x has lots of good reports.

The most important Climate Change book I’ve read
This is a brilliant optimistic book and has lifted my spirits about the future immensely. The most exciting part is none of the solutions are vapourware, most exist and just needs development. Buy a copy now and start to feel happier 👍🏼

Poor binding (of the paper form book).
Despite the price not being low, the book is very poorly glued together and it literally falls apart while reading it (despite handling it very carefully). At least 15 leaves are totally loose now. If I order a book in paper form I intend to refer to it frequently which is not really possible here....Disappointing!

Absolutely fantastic
Describes a solution to the climate crisis. Essentially existing technology in energy, transportation and food might save the biosphere from the climate crisis. A must read!
