I spent many hours of research and trial and error looking for the correct finish on a chestnut coffee table I’m making. I found this hard wax oil and it’s perfect! Gilboys wasn’t a brand I was aware of until I saw this hard wax oil demonstrated on their YouTube channel. It looked perfect for my needs and after trying it I can tell you it easily surpassed my expectations. The tin arrived well packaged with a personal thank you inside with a small and thoughtful gift. This is a good indicator of the importance customer satisfaction is to this company. The hard wax oil is also a cut above other products three times the price. The application is like butter on warm toast spreading smooth and even with ease. The aroma is citrus and pleasant but I don’t recommend using any finish without adequate ventilation. I could happily apply this finish all day unlike some that drag or smear the product over the wood surface. This is a true satin and doesn’t look like a cheap gloss or a matt finish that could make the wood look flat and lifeless. The colour of the wax oil is neutral but does deepen existing tone by a shade or two which looks better to my eye. It brings out the natural grain while retaining that real wood appearance giving that high quality look without any plastic sheen. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this finish or this company. They just seem to be in a different class when it comes to knowing what works perfectly with a modern high quality appearance. The YouTube tutorials are extremely informative and entertaining and I recommend you check out this product being demonstrated there as you may pick up some tips from a great furniture restorer.

I have used Gilboy's wax polish on wood products before, and knew it was excellent quality, so I was very happy to find their hard wax oil. I used it to coat some unfinished oak flooring and some 60's chairs I was restoring. It smells much nicer than other well known brands, and it is thin so you can achieve several thin coats with ease. It was absorbed and dried well, leaving no sticky residue. A fine sand between coats really enhanced the soft smooth finish. It did slightly warm the colour of the wood, and brought out the natural beauty of the grain. If you use it as directed, you can't go wrong! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this product.

I had a total of 8 metres of oak worktop to oil and decided on another manufacturers 'worktop oil'...it was awful, raising the grain, sticky, uneven finish etc. Read up on this and decided to give it a go so sanded back the worktops to 280 grit, cleaned the wood held my breath then applied with a lint free cloth. It is very easy to apply, sort of creamy smooth, doesn't drag and requires no effort at all. After one coat was left to dry it has a lovely supple feel and a gentle sheen so I'll give the worktops a very light sanding and reapply until three coats have been done. I can't vouch for any other wood however if you're unsure what to treat you're new oak worktops with I suggest you give this a try, I can't imagine anybody would be anything other than delighted with the results. Reference the colour, I would say this highlights the grain without overly darkening the wood. The included pack of Sunflower seeds was a nice touch and will be planted by my grand kids in the spring...anything to help the bees!

Needed to sand and treat a table that suffered water damage. After shopping around and watch videos opted for the Gilboys. So glad I did. My table has now returned to a beautiful condition. Not the strong odour like some other products have. Next the kitchen worktops! 😉

Gilboys make the best wood and leather care oils and waxes. This stuff can be used sparingly (and so you get great coverage from one tin), brings out the grain beautifully and dries to a lovely, warm, hard subdued sheen. Excellent product. Try the leather balsam too - equally as good.

This product is Fantastic! It has totally revived our parquet flooring- removing the need to sand them, absolutely amazing. Also, thinking of our bees with a pack of seeds with purchase. Definitely support companies with such a positive ethos and great products!

Wanted an alternative to odies, this works great, however 2 coats are needed and you have to somewhat be in a dust free environment if you apply to heavy. It's very sticky, so wear gloves and be sure to properly dispose of towels as it has linseed oil. I found my first batch of boards I applied heavy and didn't take my time wiping down and they feel gritty. Since then, glass like finish applying lightly and wiping off. I think I will purchase again when I run out. I've coated around 30 boards 2 coats and used around 1/3

Amazing product! As promised it makes our natural maple counter top beautiful and durable! Nothing stains the counter! Of course we wipe up spills quickly but we are very satisfied so far with the product
