(Aside from shipping box) The image through the monocle is very clear, as stated. Construction feels sturdy and grip texture is aggressive but clean. The compact size is perfect for one handed viewing, and the focus knob on top worked better than I expected for one handed use. The tripod works nicely, great for use with a camera I would think, though I bought this to use on the go so I personally won't be using the tripod much. It comes with lens caps for both ends, my only complaint is that the rear cap does not come with a retaining loop (like the front cap does), though the rear cap has a slot for one. The quality of the product is okay. This is basically an inexpensive monocular. The problem is that I believe it is misrepresented. I'm not an expert on binoculars or monoculars, but I have done some research and have come to the following conclusion. It is not 12X (12 power).I bought this as a gift and to share with someone. I have 8X binoculars and we use them for bird and gator watching, but decided we needed something more powerful. The feature that we can also attach a smart phone and take pictures also helped me to decide to buy.But when out in the field today I noticed the images didn't seem any bigger through the monocular as through the binoculars. I decided to do a test and focused on a distant sign out in the lake. It had fine print and I could barely read it with the monocular and so too with the binoculars. The images appear to be about the same size to me. When comparing an image that is magnified 8 times to the same image magnified 12 times, the difference should be noticeable. I would say that this monocular is 8 power, not 12.I kept trying to refocus and used both the eyepiece focus ring and the knob. It didn't help. The image is clear and magnified, but not 12 times the size of the image as seen with the naked eye. I didn't try to take a picture with the monocular, but I will soon. I'm debating whether to return it or keep it since taking pictures with our cell phones was one of the features we like and the image is clear enough, just not as big as we wanted it to be. I also don't know if an iPhone 8 will fit into the holder. It's big enough for an iPhone 5 but the iPhone 8 is bigger.
