Sales information says that it works with standard UTP (unshielded twisted pair) cables. That means that CAT5 & CAT5e cables do just fine as they are UTP cables. I could try this with CAT5, 5e and 6 later this week. I let you know if I run in to some problems but I doubt it. **Q: Does the RECEIVER require a power supply? So, if I hang a monitor on a wall... do I need to also provide power for the receiver?** A: Hello. Yes there is a power supply for the transmitter and receiver. If you are mounting on the wall, just split the AC to both the TV and the receiver. This unit worked quite well for me. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good XVGA sender *by D***E on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 25 November 2016* These devices work great for sending a video signal from a laptop 20m to a monitor. Nice clear sharp picture at that distance.They include sending the audio, which I haven't tried yet. They have a local monitor out connection from the sender that is great for a PC or for us where we have 2 monitors connected to the laptop. It uses a standard UTP CAT 5e/6 network cable (not cross wired). There is a strange statement in the instructions about a 'cross stand' cable, but I don't know what that means. You will need a mains power socket at each end available to power the devices and VGA cables to connect to the PC and monitor if you don't have them, I use these  sourcingmap Black Blue VGA 15 Pin Male to Male Plug Computer Monitor Cable Wire Cord 4.2ft This is my second try at the device, the first one had obviously been opened previously and it did not work.
