On October, 29 2013 Autechre will release their new EP on Warp Records. Titled L-Event, the EP follows Rob Brown and Sean Booth's 11th full length, Exai and 2011's 47 track collectionEPs 1991-2002. With a running time of 26 minutes and 2 seconds, L-Event will be available on CD and vinyl. Review: ae. - What serious Autechre fan can remain displeased with ANY of their releases, old or new? Because what may not make sense, from them, one day, will reveal itself as amazing another day. To hear Autechre progress in their "AUdio TECHnology REsearch" is a treat and a blessing in itself. But then, their individual tracks, albums, and EPs also stand alone as great works of art. I actually consider them contemporary classical music! For the reason that they explore, employ and merge sounds, without words, to create definite effects on the listener, as most of the best of traditional classical music from the past has done; they do not have "an agenda", lyrically or in terms of gimmicks or fashion; they just create and publish various blends of sound, employing melody, harmony, and (perhaps especially) rhythm. L-Event, unsurprisingly, didn't make much sense to me at first, but each time I listen to it (again, not surprisingly) it appeals to me more and more. (This is how Autechre usually effect me.) This is a brief, 20-something-minute EP, with only 4 tracks, but it's good! Review: this is a must have companion to exai. - great experimental tracks--these tracks feel like they are from the same sessions as exai which is my personal favorite autechre album--Please check out their website that they have for their newest material--there is tons of stuff on it. as well as live show. My favorite track on here has a dog bark esque sound constantly shape shifting in your ears. Its great stuff

better than Aphex Twin?
this is so good it's up there with Aphex best stuff. is autechre now at a place in history where they are making more interesting music than RDJ(the chosen lords was so so)? Exai was album of 2013 for me. I think Autechre is the most exciting thing in music right now.

Pretty Good
This is definitely one of their more experimental releases, more along the lines of Draft 7.0 than Tri-Repetae. Still worth a buy for Autechre fans, as they are always a fascinating listen.

I'm biased.... I love Autechre.
The way I see it there are two camps of Autechre fans. Those that think Tri Repetae was the pinnacle of their career, find the new stuff too alienating, and yearn to get back to those beautiful melodic days, and those that have taken the plunge, gotten into the new stuff, and followed Autechre down the rabbit hole. For the first camp of fans this is not the release you have been waiting for. For the new camp this is a lovely release. What I like the most about this EP is how cohesive it is. The tracks follow one another, in fact build on one another, in a way I think hasn't been exhibited in the past. As another reviewer noted there are 4 tracks but really about 7 themes being explored as each track except for the last changes its evolution about halfway through. The first two tracks are pretty bass heavy, full of poly-rhythmic ideas, and tease you to keep up with each variable and changing motif. The third track becomes more minimal and hypnotic. On its own its a little hard to get into but after being immersed in the first two track it becomes trance inducing and incredibly fascinating. The fourth track is the only one that could be called melodic and explores the familiar sad landscape Autechre is known for. It provides a nice balance to the other tracks and appropriate mood to end on. More than previous releases this feels like a mini performance encapsulated in an EP format for your pleasure. Recommended :)

Unexpected and different
This disturbing short-form album shows Autechre in a rhythmic mood, unafraid to emote---but just as likely to squeal, whistle, or stutter---and, increasingly, to sing. There are sounds resembling drums, guitars, bells, basses, pianos, echoing voices, and rattling air conditioners all playing together as a band. But the boundaries between instruments seem to blur, and the bass seeps into the drums or the guitar amp malfunctions, and we find ourselves in unexpected territory. Each track begins with a rhythmic statement of some kind, occasionally dissonant but always evolving toward danceability, and then changing grooves just when you think it should. The twenty-six minutes of "L-Event" are ostensibly divided into four songs, but there are probably seven or eight different rhythmic and harmonic moods intertwined along the way. The result is a more epic and unified feel to the record than most previous Autechre EP's. An outstanding listen.

I utterly admire this release.This is not your father's Oldsmobile.It pulses.grinds,seethes,moans,throbs,whines,squeals,whirrs,builds,chafes,tenses,releases,scours,congeals,collapses,disturbs and dissipates.It is both aseptic and bacteriological in measured doses.It is alternatingly sterile and toxic.Sometimes it sounds like the sonic equivalent of fractal crystal formation and then it smacks of the aural analogue of a poly-dementional ontological exercise.Maybe this is how our multiverse was amalgamated?Autechre are onto the same vibe that I used to hear out of Moebius,Beerbohm,and some of the experimental chaps on the INA/GRM label.Dance at your neurological risk and be certain to have a pharmacological remedy for seizures at arm's length.Highly recommended by myself and overtly rejected as cacophony by my mother."Musical" entropy?But then-what do I know?Rhetorical question.

In case you never figured it out the title is a pun as well as a straight title: L-event or Elephant? Either way this is jazz for the computer age. Avant garde electronic music. For some inaccessible, for myself sheer genius. The Sound of the future now. Amazing.

Autechre comme à son habitude nous amène dans des ambiances acides avec des rythmiques lourdes disproportionnés avec un coté underground surréaliste, ce groupe a su influencé les plus grands notamment Tom York (Radiohead)

Mehr mathematisch-autistische Klang- und Beatforschung von den Meistern ihres Fachs. In ihrem Metier sind Autechre nicht zu toppen, auch nicht von Aphex Twin. Klang gewordener surreal-expressionistischer Irrsinn der trotzdem spannend ist und auf seine ganz eigene weise "groovt". Musik für das Kino im Kopf. Prima E.P.!!

After a few albums which was a bit experimental and changing their sound, THIS album is what it all comes down to and totally shows a new side of their old self and new self combined in perfect harmony.

Nachdem Anfang März 2013 das zweistündige Album Exai auf die Zuhörer losgelassen wurde, gibt es nach etwas mehr als einem halben Jahr etwas neues zum verrückt werden. Als EPs kann man die veröffentlichten Scheiben von Autechre nicht bezeichnen. Immerhin beträgt die Spielzeit für die 4 Tracks noch 26 Minuten, in diesem Fall. Autechre Fans sind nach der geballten Ladung von Exai hier genau richtig. Man merkt einen starken Bezug zur zuletzt erschienenen LP. Basslastige Sounds mit verstörenden Knarz-Sounds und eingenwilligen Elementen. Schwer zu beschreiben. Und genau das fasziniert die Fans. "Wie machen die nur diese Sounds....?" Einsteiger sind hier (ehrlich gesagt) fehl am Platz. "tac Lacora" hat als einzigster Track wirklich Rhythmus, und dieser ist immer noch schwer heraus zu hören. Während "M39 Diffain" mit geisterhaften Sounds, und "newbound" mit klaren Hintergrund Melodien arbeitet, findet sich hier ein System, aber kein Rhythmus. Wilde Geräusche, herein geworfene Bässe und seltsame Dinge tun sich da. Ich persönlich finde es gut, versuche es gar zu verstehen, aber diese EP halte ich nicht für Neulinge geeignet. Zwar habe ich mich noch nicht von Exai erholt, bin aber begeistert über Autechre's Kreativität und der Gabe, immer neuen Input zu bringen.
