I removed 1 weight from each of the 3 inner channels and the weight carrier fits in my vest just fine now. Using the front pocket you can carry 4 of the 6 removed weights losing only 2 of them from the total (1 lb). That works for me. The little weights are likely filled with lead or another ferrous material as a magnet sticks to them. They are well sealed so, even if they're lead, they ought to be safe. These weights will make a nice complement to the heavier 14.5 lb solid plates I've got for the vest.
