Good, detailed and interesting maps

Brilliant book, perfect condition, wonderful price. What's not to like?

Regardless of what era your interested in this is an essential. The ninth edition of the series it’s attention to detail is second to none. The book fluidity makes it so accessible with the novice like myself. A must for anyone interested In the recorded history data of the Human origins and cultures from 5 million years ago to today’s homo sapiens. Effortlessly sweeps from one era to the next and it’s refreshing to read about the ‘true’ history of the world and not Eurocentric writtings.

I have to original from 1978 so was able to compare the two versions and my first impression was lots of pretty maps. This version has more on the rise of the modern industrial world so it is better in that respect but that is about it. With the old version you have a map and a brief history of say the Ottoman Empire with this version you have a larger map and a seemingly smaller brief history. Some diffences seem quirky for example the ammount of space devoted to Indian civilisations of the Americas in comparison to say the ancient middle east or China which surely have made a bigger impact on the world. Perhaps because the editors of the new version were worried about the attention span of modern readers they seem to have emphasised style over content.

Very detailed and definitely not a quick read but l didn't buy it because l thought it would be. I'm almost finished it and wow was it interesting. My nephews don't like school and don't very much like history in general but when l talk about all the stuff l learned in this book they seem to really enjoy it. A bonus is that is really looks nice. It came in a nice decorative quality simple black case sits on my fireplace mantle. Great book packed with so much detail.

Concise but complete. The way they have represented the information using graphs and tables is impressive.

bought for very smart 10 year old nephew. I have an old Times Atlas which I use often when reading history and this one is up-t-date and has a lot more info in it. My nephew was first impressed by how big and heavy it was. He reads all the time and is delighted with this book. Recommended to a friend to buy for her husband who is taking history courses during his retirement from medical career. Good for all ages. A very good price for what you get!

Perfect for a Geographer who likes history, or na Historian who likes maps and cartography. A perfect mix to understand the world.
