Regulate intense emotions, change problematic behaviors, and build fulfilling relationships with this self-directed DBT skills program. Created by psychologist Marsha M. Linehan, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is an evidence-based approach for managing difficult emotions, thoughts, and behaviors. In this practical guide and workbook, you will develop skills in four key areas: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. While traditional DBT programs take 6 to 12 months to complete and require weekly individual therapy, weekly group skills training, and regular phone coaching, Self-Directed DBT Skills distills the DBT skills into a 3-month program that anyone can access and implement on their own. Using this roadmap filled with actionable exercises, you’ll build a strong foundation for emotional well-being and create lasting change. Beginner-friendly DBT fundamentals that prepare you to move through a 3-month program so you can learn DBT skills without a DBT therapist 3-month timeline with progressive skill-building to add new skills to your DBT toolbox with weekly chapters that take 15 to 30 minutes to read Step-by-step exercises by DBT-Linehan-board-certified psychologists who have helped hundreds of clients build meaningful lives through DBT Downloadable worksheets and bonus materials like a DBT Skills Cheat Sheet to reinforce skills and help you apply them to your daily life Review: Provocative, insightful and actionable - I just love this workbook. I’m not all the way through it yet, but it has already made a big difference for me. It’s deep with theory and content, but still understandable and actionable. I’ve tried to keep up the pace, doing one chapter a week, but some of the exercises and activities take a lot of thought and introspection. Being Type A, I had to make a conscious decision to work it at a more leisurely pace. I’ll finish it when I finish it. The only thing I would really love to have now is an actual spiral or looseleaf workbook or, better yet, downloadable worksheets that I could write on as I work through the exercises. At the beginning, I was writing out my exercises in the book. But it doesn’t take long to realize the constraints imposed by space limitations of the worksheets in the book. And now I have defaced my book forever, mistakes and all, which feels like a sin. Despite these considerations, I still give it 5 stars without hesitation. Review: Excellent DBT workbook - I bought this workbook to help me while going through a DBT Intensive Outpatient Treatment Program. It was very useful and insightful and not as expensive as some of the others on desertcart. If you are looking for a workbook to assist you at a minimal cost, this is the one.

GREAT INTRO TO DBT
As someone with BPD, what a GREAT introduction to DBT. Years ago, I attempted DBT with Marsha Linehan’s DBT workbook and it was really dry, definitely was written for a therapist to guide a client. I completed it and learned things but felt like I was missing something. This year I bought this book and whoa, so easy to follow! Absolutely love and HIGHLY recommend. I definitely recommend another DBT workbook though as this one is more of an introduction to the skill. I have bought the green DBT workbook and two of Daniel Fox’s Borderline workbooks which are fantastic as well (he incorporates DBT in his own way). This book is worth the money.

A different experience than therapy - in a good way
I'm getting a lot out of this book. Without delving too much into my personal issues I'll say I got this book because I really needed help, but finding a therapist (who was in my network, available, and more or less compatible) was literally turning into a part-time job. I thought this book would be a stopgap, but now that I'm halfway through it, I see this kind of workbook therapy is really effective for me. (Obviously, this might not be true for everybody, so please, consult a professional. :) ) Though I'd been exposed to some of these ideas and techniques before (back when I did have weekly therapy sessions) doing the book is quite different than therapy sessions. A therapist might have great insights and give you a little homework, but it's an hour a week, and (for me) easy to fall back into negative patterns. With the book you get a lot more PRACTICE in trying to explore the ideas and use the techniques. I'm doing about 15 or 20 minutes a day on the exercises. It's a lot less performative than a session with a therapist, because it's really just me working on me and no one's watching or reading. I've already gotten some good insights into myself and created some personalized versions of the techniques which are really helping me from day to day. I spent extra for the spiral bound version of the book, which is a lot easier to lay flat and scribble in. I recommend that. À votre santé...

Poor binding
Spiral bound isn't the best it goes through graphs. I've heard the book itself is great.

A great option for a DBT workbook
Self-Directed DBT Skills is one of the most engaging DBT workbooks I’ve come across, and I have a few. It offers clear, step-by-step guidance that makes the skills accessible for readers, while also serving as a helpful resource for therapists who are still building confidence in how to explain each skill and offer meaningful examples. Also, and this is important, there is beautiful blue writing in the book which is frankly delightful.

my most favorite DBT Book
I have three different DBT books and this is my favorite - easy to understand and real in depth.

This therapy has been very successful. The book is easy to understand and gives you assignment
I have struggled with major depressive disorder, anxiety, adhd, and a few other mental health problems for well over 15 years. Every therapist I’ve gone to would only do CBT therapy, which honestly didn’t work for me or I still wouldn’t be struggling. My new therapist finally suggested starting DBT and suggested this book and it has been so helpful and informational since we’ve dug into it. Great book, great strategies, the best type of therapy I’ve done after all this time! Highly recommend!

This saved me
I have now bought this book for three of my friends and am constantly recommending it to others. I was at rock bottom when I found it. I had accessed years of psychotherapy, but had stagnated and got stuck in an over intellectualising loop. I had given up on ever feeling better. Then this book came along and gave me back my agency in my therapy journey. You know that feeling that you get every once in a blue moon in talking therapy, when you have a breakthrough, after months of work and feel your insides rearrange like a rubix cube? I felt that every single week when working through this book. I have learnt so much and I finally have hope again.

A must have for cptsd bpd
Purchased this with my diagnosis of bpd and cptsd. Have been using it with my sister and self teaching exercises. It’s great, doesn’t replace therapy but nonetheless, offers great tools
