I'm happy with its performance and value.
This NETGEAR 8-port switch is a solid choice for small networks. It's easy to set up and provides reliable gigabit speeds. The PoE+ feature is a big plus, allowing me to power devices like IP cameras and wireless access points without needing separate power adapters. The compact size makes it easy to place on a desk or mount on a wall.

Works, Simple, but a Little Pricey
This is a REVISED review after learning more about my network issues. The GS108PP is probably a perfectly fine switch, but time will tell. This switch seems expensive for what it is. However, I guess part of the price is for the POE feature. If you don't need POE, skip this unit for less expensive switches. I needed POE. If you need POE, this is a good choice. It is actually "POE+". I use UVerse gigabit internet (1000Mbps) by AT&T which includes a Pace 5286 modem. From the back of the Pace 5286, I ran a Cat 5e patch cable to this Netgear switch. When I initially connected my devices to this Netgear switch, one hard-wired desktop on the network would drop down from 1Gbps to 100Mbps for no apparent reason. It would hum along getting 1Gig speed, then drop to 100Mbps out of the blue and stay there unless I did a hard reboot of everything, flushed DNS, etc.....headache! In my initial review of this switch, I penalized the product with 3 stars because I thought the switch was the culprit. However, the speed reduction for the desktop in question also happened when the desktop was connected directly to the UVerse Pace 5286 modem's switch (thereby eliminating the Netgear switch from the equation). So, the Netgear switch is probably not part of the problem. Thus, this is a revised review. Now, I think the culprit might have been my Cat 5e cabling to the device in question. I switched out the home-made Cat 5e cable for new store-bought Cat 5e and the issue seems to be gone (for now). I'll post an update if things change. REVISED SUMMARY: So far, I can RECOMMEND the GS108PP switch by Netgear if you need "POE+".

Great POE switch for the money
I bought this for a small home rack to replace the need to use a POE injector. Moved all of my security cameras to this switch and it has worked flawlessly for several weeks now. I really like the external power supply as you can upgrade the power to support more POE devices if needed. The switch is also pretty small so it fits great in a small home wall mounted rack. Note that itโs not 19โ wide, but comes with special mounting brackets. Note that the mounting brackets arenโt a full 1U high and leave gaps. This is beneficial to me for air flow, but some people may not like this

Verify your power brick before dissing the switch
I bought the 8 port model with 123 watt power budget. It came with a 150 watt power brick. I currently have it powering four power-hungry older security cameras and a WiFi access point without a problem. If you want it to power seven 20-watt loads you won't do that -- 7x20 is 140 watts. Sorry, you'll need to get more efficient devices if you want to power them all from this switch. But if you stick within its power budget, you should be fine -- assuming your switch came with the correct brick. Unfortunately some Amazon vendors send open boxes with the wrong brick.... so check that brick!

Metal case not grounded through power cord
8-port 123W (GS108PP). It works well, but I failed to realize when I purchased that the metal case isn't grounded through the power plug. Not really a safety concern considering it's all low volt DC inside. Since I'm using shielded cable and not mounting it in a grounded equipment rack, I'll have to rig up something ugly. Also of note, there's no ground lug on the back either (which wasn't a concern until I tried to verify my shielded cable would be grounded).

Best POE Switch on the Market
It's Netgear, so really, there's no review needed, but I'll give my 2 cents anyways...... As always, securely and professionally packaged :) This model included mounting brackets and fasteners for pretty much any scenario, Wall, Desk, Rack Mount..... etc..... And not crappy brackets, Metal Brackets and quality fasteners too..... That's important to me..... Most companies go super cheap on this stuff...... What I like most about Netgear Switches: The Robust, Metal Housing Construction, The slots on the underside are perfect for quick and simple wall mounting. Installed, up and running in less than 3 minutes. Personally, I only prefer Netgear, I've never, ever, ever, had one of there Switches fail, ever....... I've used several other brands and none compare...... Within the last couple of months, I've replaced all of my Metal Housing 10/100 Netgear Switches with 1 Gig Netgear Switches, one 4 port, three 8 Port, and one 16 Port. This is the first Netgear POE Switch I've used, so I'll give this one a big thumbs up too!

I chose this unit because of the high power output ...
I chose this unit because of the high power output per port and the external power supply and size. Mine is mounted in an outdoor NEMA 3R box measuring 12 x 12 x 4 inches. Inside the box I installed a standard 120V AC dual outlet to which the switch is plugged into. The bottom of the box is drilled to allow access for conduits for electricity supply and also for no leak seals allowing for ethernet cables to enter and exit the box. Currently the switch is powering a Unify outdoor AC access point and three HD cameras with night vision. That leaves three more POE ports for expansion. Also, I have the box on the North side with the switch sealed inside to mitigate direct sunlight and heat issues. No problems even with outdoor temps in the 90's. Remember, if running a lot of POE devices, the LED's when on will consume more power than when off. Check the specs of your devices.

POE is full protection against shorts and over loads!
Some very cheap POE switches have no protection from surges, shorted wires or over loads which sees them end up in the dump quickly. Netgear has done a great job here for a perfect fit for POE cameras. Only wish is a separate 1gig or 10gig copper or fiber uplink port. Youโll have to use one of the eight ports for that.
