Brilliant book and all set up for the finale
Honestly I think I drafted black luxin I'd forgotten so much of this book! I read it at the same time as the others but for some reason I just didn't remember this as well. And it's not like its bad, I really enjoyed it and the revelations, I knew there were lots but I'd underestimated it totally. As to the story itself I won't get into much being the fourth book and all but we keep our four main POV's and they all shine in their own way. Karris is perhaps a bit let down, she doesn't get half as much screen time as the others but hers is still good when we're with her. She gets the interaction with Andross the most and he's always good.Kip is learning to be a leader while also suffering some marriage problems. The campaigns are brilliant but I loved the parts the Kip and Tisis. I've read other reviews that really disliked that bit but for some reason I really enjoyed it. It's a bit random I'll be honest but for a romance between two teens it actually strikes me as very realistic. Most teen romances in these type of books have what are basically children being far too mature for their age or totally over the top melodramatics. I thought this does the whole tentative, unsure aspect of it very well. Throw in a war and political strife and no wonder they have issues. Anyway I loved the Kip and Mighty storyline in every aspect and am very curious as to how it's all going to pan out. I also found it actually quite sad. They're burning through their halo's and it really struck me how young they all are. It's such an interesting system how magic can literally cut short your life.Teia and Gavin have by far the darkest stories here. Teia is mired in her role as spy and she is being changed by the compromises she's making. I'm not even sure she realises it yet but I do wonder where she is going to end up. I don't see her changing sides or anything but she could go quite far down the dark side. For a guy who had it all for so long the author is really beating down Gavin for the last two books. It doesn't get any better here and he spends most of the book with himself, or aspects of himself anyway (you'll know what I mean if you read it!). Nothing much happens here and yet so much does. This is where nearly all the revelations are and they are worth it. Still can't believe I'd forgotten so many of them.Anyway I've no idea where this is all going. All sides have points in theory and one thing is for certain, I'd imagine it's going to be quite a different world after. There hasn't been really any main character deaths so far so I'd imagine that's going to change. I am both looking forward to the concluding volume and slightly apprehensive. I really like all the characters and I just don't see it ending well for all of them.

Like this was the set up for the main bit ...
Woah woah woah woah wait. THAT is where you ended it?I don't mean the actual last chapter, by the way, I mean all the story lines. I'm reading on kindle without the thing saying what percentage through the book I am, and I'm enjoying it, enjoying all the world building, all the story lines... But I thought the book was just ramping up! Like this was the set up for the main bit of the story coming next. I can't tell you how shocked I was when it ended! At first I thought wow, Brent Weeks is putting an 'author's note' in the middle of the story, that's pretty unusual... But then it's the acknowledgements!I can't believe it ended there, but I get the feeling when it's time for book five, this will feel like book four Part one, and that book four Part two. And if that's the case, when the two are together it could be a spectacular 'book', as it's been an amazing series and the story is going to good places, a whole lot of great stuff in there.Loved the story, really enjoyed the story so far, just a bit shaken at what felt like a really abrupt or at least unusual end!Until book 5 (or 4 part two), I guess! You know you're a life-long fantasy-series reader when you read a 680 page book and feel like that's a good length to get the story *Started*!!!

An excellent novel & I'm glad the series is to continue
Brent Weeks has become one of my favourite novellists. His books have the richest and most relatable characters.I shall try to write this as spoiler free as possible.Of all of his books I have read this has probably had the least action. However the characters have all developed wonderfully & there are a few parts that feel to me to be a message sent directly to me, rather than between characters.Brent's first acknowledgement is also very important. All in all it is a well paced book with some loveable characters (even the characters you have to hate feel human and I even stopped hating Andross). It is a wonderfully crafted story & it is setting up for a truly spectacular climax. Please do yourself a favour and read this, but read parts 1-3 first.

The Best Out There
This is the best saga for fansty readers out there (well maybe it is a tie for first place with Brent Weeks other trilogy The Night Angel Trilogy) Brent Weeks is incredible this is a must read for any fansty buff out there. If you liked Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Hunger Games or any other book with magic this is the saga for you. Brent Weeks is one of those writers that makes you think one thing and then not only completely turns it around but then suddenly turns it on its head a few chapters later making you just sit up and go 'NO WAY'. You always fall in love with his characters and through his book come to feel like you know them. Absolutely brilliant this is a must read for fantasy or really any kind of reader.

Increadible
Brent Weeks is in my view a master! The depth of each and every character in every book I have read is simply breathtaking. The only problem I have with Mr Weeks writing is that I can't wait to read his next book .... then I can't put the book down .... and then It ends too soon. The blood mirror is another roller coaster.... a twisting plot line where full polychrome characters rise and fall .... secrets are revealed and life's hard choices are laid bare. Mr Weeks get writing .... the end of the lightbringer series is near .... but I'm going to have to wait till the next book to see how it all ends.

Enjoyable read but a in many ways a filler book as story is incomplete at this stage.
Enjoyable read, some good character development and deepening of their story. However some of the other main characters little progression, felt almost like a holding pattern waiting on the next phase of the story. This book is a stepping stone to last book in the series. I’m crossing my fingers for an epic finish!

Interesting
The lightbringer series has a great magic system related to different colors of the electromagnetic spectrum, each color has specific properties corresponding to their real life properties. there are some ‘colors’ such as super violet, sub red, chi and paryl that aren’t visible to the human eye. Chi corresponds to x rays and causes tumors to whoever uses them. The book also includes more of the card game called nine kings that people gamble with. I believe this card game was inspired my magic: the gathering. The world building is absolutely fantastic and is well though out. Good book, 4/5 stars!

A fantastic read
I've loved Brent Weeks' work since I read the first Night Angel novel, and my appreciation for his writing has only grown over time. This book is a phenomenal experience and if I had to offer a single complaint it's that I can't read the next in the series yet. I recommend his books to anyone that's looking for an amazing fantasy experience.

Really liked it.
Despite all the negative comments about the book, I really enjoyed it.It is really slow paced, not a lot of action, but I feel like there is a lot of character development. If you want to read for the action, yes you can skip this one and wait for the next,However, I think the book lived up to the author and his other books, although the style of the story was a little different.
