An Introduction to Medicinal Chemistry

This book is exceptional for use in a 400-level medicinal chemistry course and is highly accessible to motivated senior undergraduates. As I prepared to teach topics from the book, I read both this text and a competing one intended for the same audience. While both provide virtually all the information an instructor could wish for—including great case studies—by the halfway point of the semester, I concluded that this is the one I would recommend my students purchase as a reference book. There is one notable aesthetic difference: the images in this text are printed in just three tones, whereas the competing textbook uses full multicolor graphics. However, that competing text is also 50% more expensive. For the price and the quality of the content, this book is a fantastic value. Additionally, if you are familiar with considerably earlier editions of this text, you will find that this latest version is an order of magnitude better. Highly recommended for students and instructors alike.

A main reference for pharmacy students studying medicinal chemistry.

Frankly magisterial. This enormous book is written in a single, pitch perfect narrative voice. Every chapter and case study builds on the previous. The atomic structures are printed nicely and the numbering in each series is easy to follow.
