This edition of The Tempest is especially designed for students, with accessible on-page notes and explanatory illustrations, clear background information, and rigorous but accessible scholarly credentials. This edition includes illustrations, preliminary notes, reading lists (including websites) and classroom notes, allowing students to master Shakespeare's work. About the Series: Newly redesigned and easier to read, each play in the Oxford School Shakespeare series includes the complete and unabridged text, detailed and clear explanations of difficult words and passages, a synopsis of the plot, summaries of individual scenes, and notes on the main characters. Also included is a wide range of questions and activities for work in class, together with the historical background to Shakespeare's England, a brief biography of Shakespeare, and a complete list of his plays. Review: Along with Arden, my favorite - I usually use 3-5 different editions in studying a script prior to performance. And this is one of my two favorites, Arden being the other. Review: best edition out there! - All of the Oxford shakespeare products are very helpful to me. the definitions of uncommon Shakespeare words and images in the play have proved quite helpful. there is only one small downside for teachers; at the beginning of the play, there are summaries in layman's terms and students might use those instead of reading the actual Shakespearian text.

Waste of money
Almost every page is worn and has writing & scribble all over it

Excellent aid for students to get the most out of this play
There is much to recommend this: (i) the typography and overall layout makes the text supremely accessible; (ii) the use of illustrations and photographs enhances rather than detracts from the text; (iii) there are a wealth of additional resources within the publication; (iv) it easily sits within a student's backpack; (v) it is very affordable. The pointers on how to approach essays and/or exam questions concerning this play stand the test of time. The notes for teachers are equally useful for the student. The inclusion of the musical score for songs within the play is, for me, the only issue with this publication, as it fails to add significantly to understanding.

Useful
Good, but your money is better spent on Sparknotes' No Fear Shakespeare version of the Tempest which is much more complete and much easier to understand and much more helpful.
