No smell at all. I read another receive that said the wig smelled after opening it from the package, but there was No Smell at all. I was able to wear it right away. I bought the 8 inch because it's similar to my current length and style. My husband thought i had just gave my own hair a good wash and press. He couldn't tell the difference. But this was after I did my modifications. I bought a pair of thinning shears to thin it throughout, bangs and all. Then I brushed in a very very little cornstarch to take off some of the shine to give a more natural look. This was a small investment with a big return on beauty and certainly convenience for me. Buy it, try it, it is heat resistant on low heat, don't use high heat, but it will take low heat and the hair will respond to the low heat. Again, there was not any smell, it smelled fresh. This has a small cap, there needs to be a description of the cap size. No part on top, it's puckered. Would be good as a cosplay wig, not for ever day wear.
