Poirot almost loses
Lord Edgware DiesMr. Poirot, I need you to get rid of my husband. This is the request that starts the mystery.Jane Wilkinson wishes to remarry but her estranged husband will not grant her a divorce. Her plan is to have Hercule Poirot convince her husband to accede to her wishes.Of course, her husband is found stabbed and only Poirot can discover who has devised the clever plan to kill Lord Edgware. The supporting characters are wonderful especially Charlotta Adams who unfortunately turns out to be another victim.Poirot considers this case as a failure because he only figures out the outcome because of a chance remark on the street.Agatha Christie created an amazing character in Poirot a man who is not a physical detective but a mental one. He sits back in a chair and uses his little grey cells. To be honest I never have cared much for Hastings. He was created to fill the Dr. Watson character but does not have Watson's charm. This is one of her mystery that includes Hastings but she stopped using him in a lot of her books. The solution to this mystery is incredible and the murderer is perfect. As I said, Poirot considered this mystery as a failure so who outwitted Poirot at least for a while. Read the book to discover the answer

Wait for the final twist
A final twist at the end makes this an enjoyable read. Christie sets up all the major players at the beginning of the story, then develops the mystery as Poirot turns from one suspect to the next trying to solve the murder of the nasty Lord Edgware. At the story's start, Poirot is begged by Edgeware's wife, the beautiful actress Jane Wilkinson, to approach Lord Edgware and secure a divorce so she can marry the Duke of Merton. Against his better judgment, Poirot goes to Lord Edgware, only to find that he had agreed to divorce his wife and had sent her a letter informing her of his decision several months prior. Poirot delivers this news to Wilkinson, who is delighted even though she never received the letter, but then Lord Edgware is brutally killed in his library. Jane Wilkinson is the prime suspect except she has a cast iron alibi for the night of the murder.Other suspects include a nephew who inherits the family fortune and title; the dead man's daughter, who feared and disliked her father; the family retainer; and an American actress who is acclaimed at impersonating other celebrities and nationalities. But when she dies by her own hand (or did she?), it appears that the American killed Lord Edgware for money but Poirot is not so sure. The missing letter may have been kept hidden to pin the murder on Jane Wilkinson and everyone seems to have a motive for killing the title character. A final twist at the end gives away the murderer and explains why a third person has to die before Poirot is able to solve the crime. An enjoyable read for any fan of Christie and Poirot.

Follow the clues if you can
What a wonderful mystery. Agatha Christie has Monsieur Poirot running in circles. Which clues are meaningful and which turn out to be dead ends? Ms. Christie keeps you guessing until the very end. Well done. Peace!

You won't guess
The plot was very good and it was interesting to get a feel for English society. The only noticeable change that was negative was the rancor between Japp and Hastings. I always thought get Japp didn't understand Poirot but at least he respected his methods. The ending is unexpected and not guessable.

Poirot solves another one!
An American actress asks Poirot to help her divorce her cruel husband, Lord Edgware. Shortly after speaking to Poirot, Lord Edgware and another American actress are found murdered. It’s up to Poirot to solve the crime. Hastings is in this story offering his ‘everyman’ opinions about the case and Chief Inspector Japp features as well.I think this story has the best description of what Hastings adds to investigations when Poirot says, “There are moments when you have flashes of brilliance when you rise above average…moments when you descent to curious depths of obtuseness, but take it all for all, you are amazing normal.” (p. 134) Essentially, that Hastings falls for whatever the criminal wants Poirot to believe so Poirot uses that to believe the opposite.

Great
There is one thing you can say for Dame Agatha is she writes a dam good story. There is enough twist and turns in this storyline to make you dizzy, although she is is stingy with the clues, there is enough there to figure it out, maybe! Thoroughly enjoyed this book.

Fantastic story, loses one star for text layout
Agatha Christie is an absolute genius. This is such a brilliant story. I read this through my Kindle app on an Android device. This resulted in the text not being correctly laid out, meaning speech from different characters ran into each other, and sentences would stop before reaching the edge of the page then continue on the next line down. It looked odd but the whole story was there and was still readable.

Who Killed The Lord....?
Agatha Christie in true traditional, classic form here in Lord Edgware Dies. Lord Edgware is a rather unpleasant man all round. He has a beautiful wife, who despairs of him. Unfortunately, for the Lord, someone wants him out of the picture and that someone swiftly and cleanly actions that thought. Who killed Lord Edgware? The obvious suspect is his beautiful wife - but she was at a party with many witnesses at the time of the murder. Although, M. Poirot also witnessed her saying that she wanted her husband dead. More confounding again is that Lord Edgware had recently granted his wife a divorce, negating her need to dispose of him! Feeling rather like a stooge, M. Poirot is all the more determined to solve the mystery. With all the ingredients of a true classic murder mystery, this is an engrossing read. Packed with red herrings and clever misdirection, the reader is pulled from pillar to post. Well written and consuming.(The BBC full cast audio dramatisation of this novel is a superb listen too). Fans of Agatha Christie (or anyone who enjoys a traditional murder mystery) will not be disappointed.
