Emigrant Wilderness Trail Map (Tom Harrison Maps)

This map was perfect for the backpack trip we went on. Very durable.

I used this map on a backpacking trip. It was accurate and hardy - it withstood some pressure and lots of opening and closing without any tears. The ranger stations near Emigrant sell this map (and this might be the only one they sell, otherwise there are just a couple of others). If you want to go to the area for backpacking, I'd suggest that you consider additional maps that are either more zoomed in or show some of the smaller creeks, which may be sufficient for water sources for camping but aren't deep or prominent enough to warrant marking on this map. (I used the Sierra North book, which had route-specific maps that were more zoomed in and had more creeks visible and more landmarks named).

Tom Harrison maps are great. This one from Amazon.com arrived in a wet plastic bag with a strong odor

Love the durability and waterproofing. It is missing some cross country routes, but nothing that couldn't be solved with compass work.

If Tom Harrison covers an are that you are going, I suggest you buy the map. Not a tough choice. His graphics are great and the maps are accurate and easy to use. We've hiked the Sierra for decades and have seen about every map available. You should also buy 7.5 USGS quads if you plan on off-trail hiking, but for the overall base map you won't find better.

I like the plastic coating on the map. Seems like it will last awhile, yet doesn't weight much which is good for backpacking.What I didn't like, was the map shows a trail (red dashes) from Bear Lake to Granite Lake, but we could not find this trail. It required some good cross-county skills up a steep incline to get to Granite Lake, and the map might mislead others into thinking they just need to follow the trail.Otherwise, it seemed accurate and helpful in determining elevations and distances.

Good map for my purposes. Nice quality paper that seems durable. I carry it with me when in Emigrant in case I get lost.

Used this for a backpacking trip and it really helped! The rest of the group was always surprised when I knew how steep the trail ahead was.
