They are NOT made out of wax (like some other brands). I like that the set came with two remotes and there are lots of functions. They seem like they will last a while and I like the little plug on the bottom to protect the bottom from water if using outside. There are a few issues. First, one of the candles doesn't work at all (not a huge deal because there are so many). Second, the battery pictures are backwards so if you put the batteries in the way the map shows, they don't work (again, not a huge deal, I figured it out). Third, if you use them outside, which I am doing, the sun will turn on the candles. This is a little annoying because it drains the batteries.
