After checking them over from delivery, I was a little apprehensive about the snaps that held the side bags in place. They were hard to unsnap and I was afraid I was going to rip the plastic they were attached to. I would suggest an adult unsnapping them, and then leaving them alone. I haven't had the opportunity to present them yet, but I was impressed with the construction of the trays. They are made with a firm foam tray covered in woven nylon cloth. It appears that they will last as long as the boys remain interested in using them, which I think could be about 8 years, until the younger one turns 10 or 11. Who knows, as long as they both want to write and draw and play hand-held games, they might use these as laps trays until they are about 12. I'm thinking of adding a magnetic sheet on top of the foam, the kind that is thin enough to roll up. There are several magnetic games and puzzles that could be used in the car if I were to add this feature. I specifically looked for a tray that was at least 12" x 15" so that it would be large enough for drawing and games.
