Would this be comfortable for someone who sleeps sitting up in the bed without a headboard?

I think so. You must be propping yourself up with pillows or something already. My neck pillow stayed in place well, when using it on a plane, even when I wasn’t leaning my head back against the seat. I found it to be quite uncomfortable, resting my chin on the chin rest section of the pillow.
