Its clear layout and proven teaching format make it a powerful music teacher resource or a thoughtful gift for bass guitar enthusiasts. Start learning bass with confidence using one of the most trusted methods available. Review: Educational but beware this is classical notation - This is a good book for adult learners who want to understand a bit of sight reading along with correct technique and later on, tab. As a guitar teacher I find this book useful for teaching adults and mature bassists who would perhaps not be interested in graded exams. But would still like to follow a structured program for leaning. Hal Leonard delivers. Review: Stunning learning resource - Having been trying to learn to play bass for over six months and making slow but steady progress I've been amazed at how much this book (the complete edition) has propelled my learning. It's SO intuitive and easy to follow, I feel that I've come on leaps and bounds since picking it up, not only with my understanding and technique but also with reading bass clef, an added bonus I didn't even think about when purchasing this. Don't delay, what incredible value if you're committed to learning to play this instrument!

No audio included
This book is great, but it's important to know that this version does not include the audio which I feel is an essential component for practicing the exercises in the book. There is another version for only a few pounds more that includes audio, this can be played with the online audio player or downloaded. I'd highly recommend ordering that. Some of the audio can be found on YouTube but the online player is much better, including speed and pitch control, and AB repeat.

got this for a great price so my review is coloured by that
got this for a great price so my review is coloured by that. Seems pretty comprehensive, like the guitar volume this one mostly uses notation rather than tabs which means the progress can be slow if you're a beginner and just learning to read music. Other than that, good. Like the guitar volume this one has some pretty cheesy song choices. Would be more inspiring to include some better, more popular songs. If you're a beginner like me, fun is a very important part of the learning process.

No On Line Audio Support with this version.
Be AWARE this version of the book does not have on line audio through Hal Leonard. You have to purchase the one that indicates audio support on the front cover.
