He made a small fire in the bottom bit, put the kettle on and in a few minutes I was happily sat there clutching a steaming cup of tea watching him pump up air mattresses, get a sleeping bag out of a pack that looks wayyy to small for it to fit ect. In conclusion my fears about having to wait ages to get a caffeine fix were unfounded and it didn't take much longer than my kettle at home. You can boil a gallon of water in way less than 10 minutes using just a couple of handfuls of twigs, leaves and any other dry organic detritus you find lying around. Waste paper even. Your electric kettle costs a bomb to run. This costs *nothing* and works faster. And unless you reverse your car over it or something it can't go wrong because it's so simple. A nice tip for lighting it quickly is to rub some Vaseline into some cotton wool and use that as the base of the fire.
