The book's protagonist, the handsome, obsessional, brooding police detective Erik Winter, is his usual handsome, obsessional brooding self (rarely will books leave you with as vivid an impression of their main character's hunkiness as this series succeeds at doing), and the frequent peeks into his psyche and private life are as enjoyable as ever. Erik Winter is the main character and lead detective. In this story a woman is found murdered in a lakeside ditch - thereby ending Erik Winters vacation. The police cannot find out who the murdered woman is - no one comes forward to claim her. They do know that she has a child though At the same time Eriks fellow detective, Aneta,is attacked and sent to the hospital.
