Review: Well designed and sturdy - just what every school child should have..... - Not only is this well engineered piece of equipment, but it is sturdy enough to ensure that most school children don't break it. The compass features a lock to enable it to be locked during use; a cover which slides over the spike (when not being used) and has an attachment included to enable ordinary pencils to be used rather than paying for extra graphite nibs.It comes in a well designed case which is only about 10mm deep so can be easily put into a pencil case for school. Pay a little extra and get this as opposed to the 'bog standard' one (which my son had and broke after its first use)

A: The body of the compass is made of metal and the plastic handle. A greeting

**Q: What is the radius of this compass?**
A: Maximum radius is 145 mm

**Q: What is the size of the pencil lead?**
A: Hi, the pencil lead length measures 15mm, it also comes with a spare and a clip on adapter for a pencil to be used instead.  I highly recommend this item for precision.

**Q: is it possible to use normal pens and mechanical pencils  with this compass?**
A: The simple answer is - yes it is. The compass comes with a additional 'click-in' adaptor (which replaces the adaptor which holds the pencil leads), and a pencil can be held in this adaptor by means of a plastic screw (also provided). If the 'mechanical pencil' is the same diameter as an ordinary pencil, then you should also be able to use that. I hope that this helps.

It's a basic compass but a very useful tool for what I needed it for. It is very well made and seems robust enough to last a few years at least. I am surprised that it is priced so low. I am very happy with the product and would definitely recommend it.
