No, it isn't noisy. And, yes, you can keep the suction on if you want to but it isn't necessary because you can put the cap on the tube. Once the cap is on, the insect can't escape until you are ready to let it go. So, if you are upstairs, for example, you have ample time to get down to the garden and release the bug wherever you want to.

Is the suction good enough? Some reviewers say it's not.

It works OK, apart from the very thin legged house spiders, who are usually sitting on a fine web, which makes it difficult to suck them up, but move it around to break the web and up they go. On the thick legged large bodied spiders and woodlice, no problems. You can't expect a Dyson for £12

Would this work for cockroaches?

It has got good suction, should work. You might have to take the small nozzel off, depending on the size of the bug.

didnt they miss a trick by not having the motor blow out too? would mean u could just point, press blow and get rid of it right?

Yes, I always think this would be useful. Flies, wasps etc. will fly out on their own when you release them, but spiders tend to cling to the mesh at the handle end of the tube. I would gladly pay a bit more for one of these which could blow as well as suck.
