## Overview

The Sigma 150-600mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM Contemporary lens for Canon EF mounts offers a lightweight, compact design packed with professional-grade features. It boasts a versatile hyper-telephoto zoom range, advanced optical stabilization with an acceleration sensor, and superior image quality through FLD and SLD glass elements. Built for durability, it features dust- and splash-proof construction plus water and oil-repellent coatings. Its fast, quiet autofocus with manual override and a 9-blade rounded diaphragm deliver stunning sharpness and beautiful bokeh, making it ideal for wildlife, sports, and action photography.

## Description

The first hyper-telephoto zoom lens from our Contemporary line for better usability. On the one hand, the product concept of the SIGMA 150-600mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM | Sports is to achieve the best optical and action-capture performance to meet the requirements of professional photographers. On the other hand, that of the SIGMA 150-600mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM | Contemporary is to achieve a lightweight and compact construction for higher usability with similar specifications. It has put a special emphasis on its optical performance by incorporation of 1 FLD and 3 SLD glass elements, optimisation of lens power distribution and minimised chromatic aberration. The dust- and splash-proof construction facilitate photography in the field and the detachable tripod socket offers more convenience for handheld photography. By incorporating excellent optical glass elements, it minimises chromatic aberration and achieves class leading image quality. This lens incorporates 1 FLD ("F" Low Dispersion) glass element, which has performance equal to fluorite, and 3 SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass elements which improve overall sharpness and compensate for chromatic aberration. Chromatic aberration in particular, which could be visible especially towards the telephoto-end even when stopped down, is corrected by the optimised design of glass elements including the FLD lens. The Super Multi-Layer Coating reduces flare and ghosting and provides sharp and high contrast images even in backlit conditions. Lightweight and compact construction for higher usability Compared to the SIGMA 150-600mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM | Sports, it is more compact and lightweight, enabling easy handling and making it possible to do handheld photography for a longer period of time. The tripod socket is detachable so that the lens can be carried by itself. Without the tripod socket, it also fits well into limited space for storage. Moreover, the tripod socket is made of magnesium which is light and strong at the same time. The tripod socket may be detached and replaced with a rubber protective cover PT-11 to further reduce weight and make handheld photography an even more lightweight and convenient experience. This lens is the optimal choice for photographers who desire hyper-telephoto functionality while staying light on their feet. Intelligent OS featuring updated algorithm The OS (Optical Stabilizer) function features an acceleration sensor to ensure even higher precision. Two OS modes are available: Mode 1 for general photography and Mode 2 for motor sports and other applications requiring panning. In Mode 2, the acceleration sensor teams up with the Intelligent OS and its updated stabilisation algorithm to deliver effective stabilisation while you move the camera horizontally, vertically, or diagonally-regardless of the position of the lens. This feature helps ensure effective panning and outstanding capture of moving subjects. Zoom lock switch can be set at any focal length The new zoom lock switch enables the zoom ring to be locked at any marked focal length. It can be fixed at the photographer's desirable focal length, which allows stable shooting whether the lens is positioned upward or downward. It also helps during long exposure photography. Water and oil-repellent coating ensures a pleasant photography experience The forefront lenses incorporate a water and oil-repellent coating that allows water to be wiped away easily and prevents oil and fat from sticking to the surface, even in challenging shooting conditions. At the same time, the maintenance of the lens surface becomes easier. Dust-proof and splash-proof mount As with the SIGMA 150-600mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM from the Sports line, the lens mount incorporates a rubber sealing to protect the mount part from dust and water drops. Quieter and Faster "Optimized AF" The HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor) ensures high speed and quiet AF. With the further enhanced AF algorithm compared to previous models, continuous AF (AF-C) improves the focusing efficiency by approximately 5%. Manual override incorporated to make two full-time manual modes switchable. In addition to AF/MF, MO (Manual Override) is incorporated as one of the options of the focus mode switch. By setting it to the MO position, it switches to manual focus by rotating the focus ring even during continuous AF. With AF position, standard full-time manual focus is available. Using the optional SIGMA USB DOCK, it is possible to adjust the MO position's sensitivity to switch to manual focus. Incorporating Rounded Diaphragm The 9 blade-rounded diaphragm creates an attractive blur to the out-of-focus areas of the image.

Review: Superb images and unbeatable value - Naturally this is a big and heavy lens, and with the tripod mount it works extremely well in all lighting conditions as you would expect. The image quality is excellent and I've attached a photo of a robin with some zoomed in insets to give you an idea. If you look carefully you can see the reflection of my house against the blue sky in the Robins Eye. It's that sharp. However, it doesn't stop there. That image was taken hand held at the full 600mm zoom. Yes, the light was good, and I'm using a Canon 6D at 1000 ISO, but to me at least that is pretty impressive. The autofocus was almost instant and spot on. Being a big telephoto, you are having to be at least 2-3 meters from the subject for focus! The other feature I like is the manual focus override. If you have the time, and birds are not very patient usually, you can fine tune the autofocus manually. The second sample was taken at night indoors and also handheld. This was at maximum ISO and the autofocus does hunt around a bit, but not bad for hand held indoors at 600mm. There is a feature to set the autofocus range to basically near or far and that reduces the hunt time in low light. You can see here that at max aperture the depth of field is insanely narrow, so when doing wild life stuff it's better to go up to F11 or so and have a higher ISO unless you have manged to squash your subject flat somehow. So the final picture was hand held at around 500mm with the lens resting on a railing to provide some extra stability. The bottom left inset shows the sharpness that can be delivered, the numbers on the blue container are perfectly readable. Again this was at 1000 ISO. I was a bit worried about getting this in my backpack, but the solid zoom cover is reversible and it all fits in very nicely after a bit of reorganisation. I've not bothered with the USB tuner. The results are amazing without it. But I can see how it might be useful. Finally, don't bother with a 1.4x converter. The images are better if you just crop! Sigma do seem to make very good lenses! My Sigma 12-24mm ultra-wide angle is also excellent!
Review: Quality optics at a good price. - Read the 5 star reviews. I can't add any more info to help you. It's heavy, it's quality and gives great close ups and vids. You can hand hold but I recommend a tri-pod.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Fellas, will this Lens work on this Gimbal? Or is there a better one you can recommend. http://amzn.to/2rDZdby**
A: Yes, I use my lens on the same Gimbal. Works fine. You can adjust the pivot friction to suit weight.

**Q: What is the difference between this and the sports version?**
A: The Sport Edition lens has an extra Flourite Low Dispersion element with a larger diameter - needs 105mm filter compared with 95mm of Contemporary Edition. Sport is a bigger lens and 50% heavier at nearly 3kg. The Sport has a full set of weather-seals instead of just a sealed mount as on the Contemporary. Autofocus is faster in the Sport and it's sharper at the long end (600mm) than the Contemporary. Guess that's what you pay the extra money for but....the Sport sure is a heavy beast! I tested 'em both and ended up getting the Contemporary!

**Q: Can I register the lens with Sigma and get the 3 year gaurantee**
A: I have just purchased this. I have registered it with Sigma and have received confirmation that I have been accepted for the extended 3 year guarantee.

**Q: Hi guys. silly question, but i have nikon d5600. would this fit and work well? i’m an amateur if you didn’t guess already lol**
A: Yes will work fine. Always bought Nikkors before but this lens is the nuts. Razor sharp and lightning fast focus. Worth getting Sigmas USB dock to access tuning of the lens for around 40 quid.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Quality optics at a good price.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ As good as a Canon lens - but at a fraction of the price
*by F***B on 4 January 2017*

This is a really great lens for a great price (at least it was going for a great price when I bought it!). I usually only buy Canon lenses, of which I have about six or so, but above 300 mm their lenses are just too expensive. This was my first foray into third party lenses, but it didn't disappoint. It is extremely sharp, and easily matches my Canon 75-300 mm for image quality (over the 150-300 mm range that these two lenses overlap). The lens itself comes with a padded bag (with shoulder strap), rubber ring, a separate strap for the lens itself and a lens hood. The bag seems robust and well made, with foam inserts at either end to ensure that the lens is seated centrally within the bag and can't move around. It's not the fastest lens when it comes to autofocus, and occasionally I find that it fails reach focus, but the manual focus ring is well positioned and can be used very easily. Image stabilisation works well, although at 600 mm it can't do miracles. Hand held it usually requires a couple of shots to make sure that at least one image will be completely motion-blur free (unless you are shooting in extremely bright sunshine of course). The manual states that the IS system should be turned off before the lens is detached. I guess this is to prevent you removing the lens when the IS system is engaged. I don't remember Canon IS systems having this requirement, although I could be wrong. The lens accepts 95 mm filters, which tend to be quite costly. I bought a CP filter along with the lens, but this turned out to be a mistake. At 600 mm there is already hardly any light reaching the sensor and a CP filter cuts out most of it.
