Will this damage painted doors/walls? I rent so I can't damage the property.

I think it probably would. I owm my house and I didn't wamt to take the risk, so I mounted it on card and used map pins to put it on a door. But I don'r recommend this item anyway, as others have said, it doesn't lay flat and white board markers simply don't work on it!
